Ahoy!
Hello all! Currently riding a fuji cross 1.5. But, my attention has always been geared towards steel racers and road bikes from 60s to 90s. Recently bought a banger that was sold as an 80s eddie merkx (although I'm sure it's not) for 50 quid. Anyway, I currently have "eddie merckx" fully disassembled for restoration to learn what I can about restoring more decent vintage bikes in the future. Hoping to shoot a few questions towards the pros at a later stage. But for now , it's 'hello and how are you' from Ireland 🇮🇪 🚲

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?
Welcome to BF -
Ahoy - my ship was passing by C&V topics.
If it is a Merckx, then it should be a nice rider.
Even if it is not, the work to strip a frame/repaint, clean every component and reassemble will be a good learning experience resulting in a trustworthy rider.

I'm in a very tiny house in the heart of Dublin town here and have cordoned off the smallest backyard for a week or 2 to work on this mystery bike/frame. Kids and wife are delighted of course. 😄 It's my first full brake down of a bike and its components, and you're exactly right - it's a great learning experience- who says 'old dogs cant learn new tricks!'👍

take pictures as you disassemble components with many small pieces. Helps when the kids mix the jumble, by accident of course. Ohhh, let each coat of paint dry thoroughly.
Roll On.
Roll On.
