Newbie from GA....

Have been riding a borrowed bike (a trek carbon, with dura ace's) and I am amazed at how many calories you can burn on an hour's ride!! have had four rides so far a 7 mile/35 min., a 12.2 mile/75 min, and two others about 15.6 miles and 65 min. the last ride I burned a little over 1100 calories. I'm excited about that!
I'm 5' 11" and 206 Lbs. I hope to purchase my own bike very soon(my sit bones hardly hurt now and I don't want to go through that again!) and get into a routine to lose some weight.

Bikes: Nishiki Nut! International, Pro, Olympic 12, Sport mixte, and others too numerous to mention.

Hello fixit--yes, once you've gotten over the sore bum issue, it would be nice to not have to go through that again! I'm wondering about myself, actually, as right now I am on holiday, and will not have ridden a bicycle in almost three weeks by the time I return from my vacation !

Welcome to BF!

Newnan??? Where the hell is Newnan!!
j/k

Stop by Bicycles Unlimited in Peachtree City and talk to Steve Shackleford about a new ride. Or you stop by Epic Bikes in McDonough and talk to Tim Kohl.

And stop by the Southeast regional subforum and say hi to the locals.

i recently got a trek and love it. i'm betting you will too. I don't want to sound disbelieving but are you sure you burned 1100 calories? how did you come up with that estimate?

Bikes: Just a bunch of bikes.

Welcome to the forums.
Free-Flite bikes is closing their Buckhead store and have all of the bikes at excellent closeout prices. I know it's a long way from Newnan but they had lots of carbon Treks.

Hehe! Newnan is where I started riding! I bought a pink DiamondBack road bike at Newnan Schwinn in '91 or '92. I started racing with the Southside Roadkillers. I have yet to see another jersey design with blood dripping down it.

Congratulations, fixit101, on your commitment to ride and get in better shape. That was my desire when I started cycling again back in March. I don't have the weight to lose, I weigh @150, but at 52 years old I certainly wanted to improve my stamina and endurance. Prior to March, I used to ride back in the early 90's, and did 3 MS 150's. Now I'm still reaquainting my butt to a saddle and finding out how out of shape I'd gotten over the last 15 years. The more I ride, the more I want to ride. I just wish it was Spring or Fall because the 6 month Summer heat here in Houston can make even the most ardent cycler fade. I wish you the best in your new found endeavor and hope you'll keep us abreast of your progress.

LOLOLOL, usetacould, I LOVE your avatar. I pulled that kitty sniper pic off the net several years ago and it remains one of my all time favorites. If you like, I'd be happy to send you my avatar for your collection of psycho cats. Of course, mine looks more hungover than psycho. PM me if you'd like the pic.
