Ski seaon is over ...almost

Hi all,

I'm a newbie here on this board. I live in Summit County, CO and spend my winters skiing mostly in the Central Rockies ...a fair amount on lift served terrain and a fair amount in the back country during the Spring when the avy danger goes way down.

But now is the time of year that cycling fever hits. I'm already signed up for the Santa Fe Century, The Iron Horse Classic and the Triple Bypass. I know I'm racing in a few MTB drop-in races here on the local scene like the Summit Series and the Fire Cracker 50. The 24 hours of Moab is a given as is the White Rim in a day and the requisite trips to Fruita and Moab. I would like to get to know more riding in Steamboat this summer as well as doing the Kokopelli for the first time also.

I know I'll be needing some advice on a new MTB bike here in the future. I'd really like an Intense 5.5. We'll see... but it looks like there'll be no hook-up in sight as far as price.

Nick

Several of us on the forums are going to Santa Fe C. - my wife, myself, Booyah (now "Stubacca"), his wife, their friends, a guy from NM (Hog, I think) and perhaps others.

I have a condo in Wildernest, and enjoy biking in the summer. Wife and I enjoy biking Vail Pass among other things.

But, at 64 yo, and wife at 66, we think we will pass on the Triple By Pass Ravenig from this group (lives in Highlands Ranch) is planning on doing the Triple.

Welcome.

Thanks DenvrFox and orbilius! Fox, I live in Wildernest. Perhaps I'll meet some of you at the SFC.

Cheers,
Nick

Indeed! I have a couple of back country excursions planned before the end of the season. I'm skiing the Silver Couloir (Buffalo Mt., Silverthorne) and an a line on Mt. Sopris (Roaring Fork Valley between Aspen and Glenwood) that a friend has all the beta for. If we get more than 6" tonight, I'm going to Arapahoe Basin for turnz tomorrow. How's Tucks holding up?

Tuck's is going fast this year. Shallow pack in the northeast. I was going to do tucks for the first time this year but partners bailed. Adirondack bc holds up through May.

Do you post on telemarktips.com. I am JohnF there.

I found this referrence, and assume this is to what you are referring. Sounds like fun!

We have hiked Buffalo Mtn in the summer, but never in the snow. We have done some snow hiking on the Eagle's Nest Wildernest Trail, but you are far advanced over anything that my wife and I do.

I am duly impressed.

(Our condo is in Buffalo Village, just 1/2 mile from the top loop.)

Ah, I have a friend in Buffalo ...I have a place in Silver Queen West. The remaining construction of the pedestrian path down Ryan Gulch begins Monday for two months. Can you believe that they don't allow cyclists on that path!!!?? I'm glad it's there now, but I was kinda psyched to use it for egress down and up Ryan Gulch.

Yes, we were surprised that bikes were not allowed. BUt, it is just not wide enough for peds and bikes.

Perhaps a decent mtn bike trail down the creek just south of the road behind BV where the beaver ponds are. There is aleady some sort of trail there.

You mean an unapproved, sneaky, secret, pirate trail? Just my cup of tea.

In the summer, the kids ride the bus up with their bikes on the front of the bus and then ride down that sneaky trail! It ends up at the last curve just before the Wildernest Rental Headquarters, gas station, etc.
