Hello From New Jersey

Hi,

I found the forum about a week ago, enjoyed it and decided to participate. I'm a long time/part time cyclist. While in college, I worked as a bike mechanic and bought the bike that I still use, an '87 Peugeot Cannonball Express. Originally Peugeot's top end mountain bike, I'm using it more for road use now.

I've been on again/off again cyclist for the past two decades, but have recently been given a choice: either blood pressure medication, or exercise. I chose exercise (those kind of pills aren't fun in anyway ) and dropped the pressure over twenty points. At the time it was winter, I bought an indoor cycle that I'll now use when the weather is too bad. I started slow and worked up pretty well, and started riding outside toward the end of summer.

Now I'm trying to find any excuse to get on the bike and go. I have to say that it's good to be back on the bike. I have some wrenching to do on the old lady, but I'm planning on doing that once the weather turns too cold to ride outside.

This site has been inspirational and I'm looking forward to digging through the wealth of knowledge here and hopefully adding to the conversations.

See ya around,

Welcome to the forum and good choice of the exercise over the pills. I'm fairly new here also and ride an 85 Peugeot Canyon Express for my everyday bike. Drop in the Classic and Vintage section and post some pics of the Peugeot.

Also, here's a link to the 87 brochure page for your bike. Nice to have a list of all of the original components.

Thanks for the welcome. I actually found the catalog on a Peugeot website a couple days ago. I had to laugh because my bike is now so custom compared to that. I replaced the stem, the handlebars were changed to a steel bar since I bent the originals, and even the original Biopace chainrings were dropped for round ones.

The specs made me look for the owner's manual which I found along with the original receipt! The manual was useless since it was written for a road bike, but the receipt brought back memories. I bought it on layaway while working for the shop one summer break during college. At that point, it cost more than my car did!

The specs are slightly wrong since my bike came with a six speed Shimano rear cluster. It is fun to see it as it was spec'ed though.

I'll post some pics this weekend.

Take care,

eddubal
