Been lurking on this forum for awhile looking for info since I recently started cycling and having a blast with it. Mostly started to get out of the gym, was starting to feel stifled.

My old man had two bikes melting into the backyard. I decided to pump the tires up and remembered the days when I was a kid as I was riding around in the backyard. He ended up giving me two bikes (same models, Target brand) since they weren't doing anything with them......the rest is history.

I've gone from 2.6 miles to just over 10 the last couple of weeks and will do 12+ tonight. That should have me plenty ready to start commuting to work. The bikes still need a lot of TLC to be ready for commuting, but this forum has been a tremedous help in learning the mechanics and planning future mods.

Keep up the good work!

I live outside Santa Fe and can testify that the riding around here is GREAT. I started mountain biking 15+ years ago and got a little serious around 2000. However, when a couple old ladies passed me on the trail while I was gasping for air, I knew it was time to get serious. I started ramping up the miles and entered my first mtn bike race in 2005. Got destroyed, but had fun. Got a road bike in 2007 and now road bike more than mountain. I am just now good enough to hang with the A club. It's been a long fun journey. Hope you stick with it as well!

Welcome NBYRDR.
I was in ABQ and Santa Fe last spring and saw several cyclists riding on the Turquoise Trail. Looked like a great place to get in some quality miles with friends. Let us know when you head out on that ride and be sure to post pics.

You aren't kidding about the riding around here being great. I ride along Tramway since they have a bike path. At least at this point to build up my conditioning although it can get a bit tricky navigating through the weekend morning joggers.

Been doing a lot of night riding since that's when I can squeeze it in and have spent some serious coin on safety gear after reading some of the stories on here.

I've ballooned from 210 to 258 thanks to grad school and a full time job, but on the road back to dropping the pounds. Already dropped 12lbs since Thanksgiving.

Gotta post up some pics of the rig.
