New from Nebraska.
Hi, my name is Andy. I have just recently gotten into cycling on a daily basis, and I am enjoying it quite a bit. I'm saving up for a road bike, but I'm just pushing pedals on my Giant Boulder with slicks for now. It does pretty well, and I am really liking the way it makes me feel. I'm looking for people to ride with in my area, so if you're from Nebraska around Aurora, or Grand Island, give me a holler.

Hey HandyAndy, welcome to bike forums! I rode my old hardtail Norco with slicks or knobbies, whichever i felt like riding for years. Biking is a blast.
Good luck on saving for that skinny tired bike, greetings from the desert SW.

Thank you all for the welcome, I would have gotten back sooner, but I've been busy working and riding. I recently got a hold of a Schwinn Varsity for next to nothing, and I put some new rubber and bar tape on it. It rides great. I have about 100 miles on it in the past week, and I enjoy it more every time. I like the bike itself, but I really think I'm going to be getting some new wheels for it very soon. My LBS said they'd shoot me a really good deal on some replacement aluminum ones. I know a lot of people say they don't like the friction shifters, but I really enjoy them actually. I know a lot of people would tell me not to dump money into this bike, but I really like the way it rides, and the size is good for me. I don't have a lot of money to spend, and I like to tinker, so I'm ok with just replacing things here and there as I go. I think it'll be cool to notice the weight loss, and the change that better components can make for it. Once again, thank you for the welcome, and I hope you're enjoying your rides as much as I am.

Andy,
Your Varsity will make you a fine ride, the aluminum wheelset is the best initial improvement you could make, good choice. One other upgrade that will be a good, inexpensive and safe move is some new, high quality brake pads for the brake sets. Ask your LBS about some Kool Stop or other replacement pads for your bike. Lots of our members have and even collect Varsities and Continentals, visit the Classic and Vintage Forum to meet these great people, I like hanging out there to learn about restoration and history. Best of luck on your riding, enjoy the Varsity.
