I am a mental health/addiction therapist. At the end of the day I need to ride my bike. It helps with my stress before and after work.

Is cycling or other physical activity part of the therapy? I've always that physical activity would ease the symptoms of mental illness.

I am a mentall health/addiction counselor. If I did not ride to work daily I would be in the same position as my clients.

I was in law enforcement when I lived in Florida. I wasn't car free, but most days I did my 40 mile commute by bicycle. The car was handy on those occasions when tropical storms blew through, or when I needed to travel to other parts of the state (or country).

Now I live in Japan, working as a full-time teacher and part-time photographer. I'm living car free here, using any of my 3 bicycles to get around. Here in Tokyo it is usually easier and faster to get around on a bike than with a car. I rent a car from time to time go shopping at Costco, or want to go riding somewhere else in the country (can't take my bike on the train...).

Isn't that a Glen Cambell song!

I work for a big bank as a computer operator and not running a car has allowed me to buy my own house without killing myself (financially). When I need a car I rent, when I need to move big items I rent a truck. The only problem I've found with bike commuting is lack of reading time. Sometimes I take public transportation to get through the stacks of books and magazines that seems to grow magically by itself..

Cheers!

I am a prison officer working shifts.I ride all the time regardless of the time or weather. I find a ride home after a stress full shift is great. The good thing with shift work is if it is a nice morning after night shift I can take the "Short cut" home. Same thing after day shift during daylight saving in the summertime.
Nothing is more relaxing than a nice ride home alongside the bay that Port Lincoln is based on.
All my co workers think I have some sort of mental deficiency for being car free.
I often get asked if I have a license.
I love cycling and it is lots better refuelling at the coffee shop than stopping in a cage at the petrol station. Not to mention lots cheaper.
I used to attend meetings in our capital city every two months(800ks away)
I left a bike there permanently with my parents and used to love to commute the 25Ks both ways along a MUP alongside the river. My goal for life(Not shared by my wife) is to never to buy another car ever.
Strange isnt it people think nothing of paying huge amounts for a car but when I mention my dream of buying a velomobile( Greenspeed Glyde thankyou Santa) they think you have gone mad.

I work for Raley's (grocery store), and they are totally cool with my commuting to work. I've encouraged a few others to do it. I keep my bike downstairs in the basement, where it's very safe, and I have a locker for shoes and clothes and all that. Works out really well.

I'm a mechanical designer at a bus manufacturer. I ride 7kms to work every morning. I'd say I'm car light mostly because my parents live out of the city and in Winnipeg the winters are a mother ****er, but this year Im going to try and bike year round and put the truck on pleasure insurance.

I ride my bike ~10 miles each way for work, which finds me driving a tractor trailor up to 300miles a day. Today it was 270miles. my 20-25miles on the bike, nowhere near offsets my delivery driving at 5-7mpg. i do like my job though.

I am just a janitor, I know, it's a dirty job, but, someone has to do it. I work third shift. My commute is about 6 miles each way. My transportation doesn't impact my job much.

Starving college student (Anthropology) a car is way outside of my means, even if I knew how to drive/wanted a car. I'm 35, never had a driver's license. I'm as car-free as it gets.

I work second shift, until 11:30 PM. At first night riding scared the crap out of me, but I got to love it when I got good lights and got used to it. The crime worries me some, ever since a couple guys tried to jack my bike.

I am an engineer - totally a desk job. My salary is such that not having a car is choice, not necessity. 7 years ago I was sedentary and overweight. I suffered a heart attack and I knew that with my job, it would be too easy for me to skip going to the gym to exercise. I decided to commute to/from work on a bike as a way of working the exercise into my daily routine. I am now car light - my wife has a car, but I do pretty much everything on the bike, or via public transit.

The bike sits in an empty cube next to mine at work, so security is not a concern.

I work at Great Harvest Bakery which is only one mile from my house.

Everyone at our store is either car free or car light except the owner who is responsible for delivering our bread to grocery stores and restaurants. We are considering getting a trike or xtra cycle for delivering to the resaurants and grocery stores that sell our bread.

The culture is such at our bakery that it turns new employees who drive cars in to avid cyclists within a year. I have seen it happen many times, it is but one of the many things I love about my job.

Not car free, but we try to be car-lite at home.

I'm a field geologist, currently working as a research consultant. My field areas are usually not within easy biking distance.

My SO works with me, he's also a geologist, so we carpool to work. Our current field area is 80 miles away and we stay at a hotel in a nearby town for a couple of nights at a time.

We are currently looking to buy a Toyota truck as our Subaru can't always go the places we need to go.

Do you ever take bikes to field areas, like WahooNC does?

Yes we have taken our mtn bikes with panniers into some field areas where it would have taken too long to hike in.

You might enjoy David Byrne's book called Bicycle Diaries. For years he has taken a folder on concert tours and explored whatever city he happens to be in.

i am a grocer at a local supermarket about 2.5 miles from my house.
alot of workers commute on bikes. some only have 90 dollar bikes from target. at the wages we get you really can't afford to have a car, so bike commuting is more out of necessity than anything else.
i have a 1982 fuju del rey , that my friend gave me as my redline 520 bike was stolen.
commuting is not a big deal for me as i am not in a rush to get to work. i ride at a slow pace but i eventually get to work. i'd say the commute takes about 20 minutes at the pace i go at.
