260 pounds, 109.36 miles, 12 mph average, my first Century (The Ride to Montauk)
Proud to share this with all you hardcore endurance riders.
I completed my first century Saturday and filmed many highlights with my GoPro Hero2 for my blog.
https://astoriahd.blogspot.com/2012/0...936-miles.html
I will try another century route in July on the Farm Ride.
This experience has truly inspired me to lose weight in earnest as hauling 50+ pounds of fat over 100 miles is ridiculous.
Check out my page and throw me a like on facebook or subscribe to the blog itself.
Thanks! Enjoy!

very nice. Looks like a good ride. I have struggled with my weight, and I have found that riding centuries and beyond is a good way to keep it in check.

i'm still 4 pounds lighter after a 100+ mile effort!
i'm determined to be at most 250 pounds for The Farm Ride in late July.

Great Job, We rode next to each other for a while. I did 154 miles from NYC. I was the guy wearing a team fat bastard jersey. Ended up averaging 14 mph. I was planning on doing the farm ride as I am from MA, but still have a bitter taste in my mouth over the lack of food.

Thanks, and nice riding with you lambrettaDL.
14MPH for 154 miles is awesome.
I apparently got lucky with food and didn't run into any problems in that regard.
They did manage to lose my luggage though, and I still haven't heard any answer to my email about that yet.
Many people seem disappointed with this ride, I guess I should be happy that I didn't have a worse experience. One of the bike shipping trucks broke down and caused people A LOT of headaches on top of the starvation. The organizers are getting ripped apart on facebook and have not addressed any concerns publicly yet.
I was already registered for the Farm Ride prior to the Ride to Montauk and it should also be a much smaller event so I do not think it will run into the same problems.

congrats - but respect your effort - listen closely to your body for a couple of weeks - its easy to get excited when a goal is achieved -
it takes years to condition and harden some of the tissues you are taxing, be happy and careful......

Richard Cranium, I think that's excellent advice, and I learned some painful lessons prior to this ride by not listening to my body in the past.
I was very happy to find my saddle area was no worse for wear, including no numbness (i now have an alcohol/neosporin routine for after showers, and my new Serfas RX saddle worked well).
my legs actually felt less burnt out than after the 5 boro bike tour (a lot more climb).
numbness in the tips of my left ring finger and pinky is lingering longer than usual though.
2 days after the century I rode 15 miles to my girlfriends house and felt strangely strong. I rode home the next day.
I would like to think that my next century in July will be easier now that I have a better idea of what to expect.
My next long ride will likely be before that. I put together a complete cycle touring backpack rig that weighs less than 13lbs (full gear overview on my blog) including shelter and I want to ride to Fahnestock Park (63 miles North of NYC) for a trial run of my gear, and eventually ride to Albany in the Fall.
