I see the forum is no longer 50+ but now just Masters. Thanks for dropping the ageist discriminatory naming. Nice to see that even the older folks can change with the times.

There was no intention to discriminate. The history is roughly as follows. A request was made for a masters racing section. At the time the only place it made sense was the 50+ forum. All Masters racers were welcome regardless of age. Then gsteinb had the brilliant idea to break out racing into it's own section by discipline and also separate Masters, all ages.

Good job - two insults, based on bogus assumptions, in as many sentences.

I like the new architecture. It makes things a lot easier switching between forums when I'm not using Settings.

Yes, another vote for the new format here. It's already clear that a lot of Masters racers never knew this sub-forum existed, because they had no reason to visit the 50+ forum. So one of the objectives of bringing all the racing forums together is already being accomplished.

Cool, this forum seems a bit more laid back than the racing 33 (tons of information in that forum), without the passive aggressive internet warriors on the 41.
Right now my 'training' is not focused on racing, because I'm going to do Mulholland, Breathless and Heartbreak this year. I am doing a crit in Redlands next week, and will try to squeeze in more races between the three fun rides as time allows.
Personally, I like the new format, I don't have to jump around into forums to get to the subforum. Some of this is because the main forum list doesn't include subforums, which makes it a pain to know what is available.

It has always been pretty civilised in here, right from the time it was just a stuck thread in 50+. The strong and experienced riders have nothing to prove, and the rest of us are old enough to know we have plenty to learn.

It's nice enough here to where even meek little old ladies like me will post.
I am liking the new format. I especially like that more people are coming to visit. Critical mass (no, not them, the forum has suddenly blossomed)?

VanceMac, your new avatar and watching your progress makes me wonder how good you could have been if you'd started racing when you were a kid. In contrast, I topped out in the 1980s and have been barely hanging on since.

Doesn't matter when you "topped out", Cleave, you win. Decades of fun. I kick myself for all those lost years. NOT because of any delusions of grandeur, just for the lost fun and fitness. And that's what I'm loving about track... fun and fitness.

Okay, so I had that fitting followup this morning. Turns out:
A. I'm actually a bit further forward now than I was on the last frame after Aaron had moved me back a touch. I had specified a zero-setback post with the new frame and fudged the saddle a touch forward when I set it up, because, well, I wanted to. I'm maybe a cm forward of KOPS, whereas before I was a cm+ behind it. I also used the new frame build as an opportunity to lower the bars 5mm, something we had discussed. He likes it, and thinks I should I should even take out the lone remaining 5mm spacer. But Trek says to keep one in there.
B. I had checked for seat post slippage when I was re-torquing for last weekends races (felt low), but apparently a difference in the scale threw me off. In prep for the appt, I loosened it up to verify, and it had slipped down almost a cm from the 'don't go above this height, goofball" line.
So, with the saddle back up where it belonged, he felt things looked great, and we didn't make any changes. We talked a lot about handling, looked at the Madone geo as it compares to other bikes, etc. Final consensus: practice! He suggested something I've never done, which is to use any empty road I'm on to practice cornering, even if it's straight, and even during base rides. We also talked about methods to compensate for the Madone's known neutral handling, and how to ensure I'm not slouching or otherwise letting my weight shift back.
I then went and did the day's workout (sprint practice and some easy time - this is a rest week) on our Tuesday night course, where I'm familiar with the corners. I zig-zagged all over on the straights, practiced the corners, etc. I got to where I was feeling much better, however I didn't take things all the way to the edge today. I wanted to just make sure I had the right feel to the movements, and to play around with shoulder and hip positioning. Interestingly, on a random mid-week noon-hour, there was another guy on the course.
Next race is a twilight C3-4 a week from tomorrow, then a typical 2 race day that Sunday: 50+ and C4.

I resemble that remark. I'm still trying to find my best - or what my best is now - and I'll never find the fun I missed. Not that I'm not having fun now, even though I'm barely mediocre. That part, so what - I'm having the time of my life. Jeez, I just bought another bike (N + how many now?), and yet I feel like I got engaged and just got the ring. This is too cool, it really is.
