I've been to Oz a half dozen times. We swapped house for a month with some friends who have a place outside of Sydney. I even started to understand cricket.

Rest day yesterday. 2:29 at endurance pace today, with alternating 3x8' muscle tension and 3x10' tempo intervals in there, and two sets of 3x45" one-legged drills thrown in at the end. I overshot the required watts and ended up around my LT for almost all of the work periods. TSS 168, IF .82, 1496 kj.

I lived in Almaty for a year and the satellite package included Sky Sports out of India, which meant that it was pretty much the Cricket Channel. There really is no better hangover TV than cricket, which was useful because I had a lot of hangovers when I lived in Almaty.

Cricket is a skilful and subtle game. I can't really blame foreigners who have difficulty taking it seriously as a spectator sport, though... . It's a bit like cycling, in one sense - unless someone explains it to you, you could watch for ever without really figuring out what is going on.

Hi, transitioning back to my racing is the best training philosophy for a week or two. Training series race tonight (Masters 35+ -- yay!), one or two crits on Saturday, and two or three crits on Sunday.

I've been getting some not so subtle pressure from one of my team mates to go up to Hellyer and partake. M u s t r e s i s t !
Back on structure today. Coach has me working on form and power. Today was a series of sprint intervals. They hurt like hell, but I really enjoyed it! It was fun watching a 30 MPH SPEED LIMIT radar sign light up when I approached at 32 MPH.

20x15" on-off intervals. That's a hard 10 minutes.

Did the training crit tonight. Hey, it was even in my training plan! Not much of a race though. Low turnout, hot and windy. B group was sedate (did last half of it to warm up); A fell apart immediately because gaps were tough to close in the wind. You needed 'a small sphere' to get any real draft.

Is the Giant up and running?
Was going to call you today but went mountain biking instead
Starting to look forward to the NSG/Nats trip. I feel like I'm pretty far ahead of the curve both in fitness and orginazation.
Downright scary.

My last training course prior to retirement from the military was at Ft. Huachuca. The training brigade commander, apparently on his last tour prior to retirement, was a bike racer and commuted to work on his bike. The MPs nailed him for doing 35 in a 30 zone on post. The MP must've enjoyed busting a full Colonel.

You must be a recovery guru! One Crit a day is my limit. In our area my races would be back to back and the only doubles I've done is when the first got cut short.

Two a day is pretty much the norm for me when I'm healthy, but I don't race multiple days in a row. Cleave does both.

After last night's race I may have been somewhat optimistic. I'm thinking two races on Saturday (which is a brand new race and course) because I hate to drive 1 hour plus just to do a 40 minute crit. If I do two on Saturday then I won't do three on Sunday, just two.
After this weekend I need to put together some kind of a plan to get ready for the Mt Whitney Stage Race (Stage 1, 34 miles, 7300’ of climbing; Stage 2, 30 miles, 5800’ of climbing) on August 10-11 and the Mt Baldy Hill Climb (11.8 miles, 4,200' of climbing) the following week.

75' steady state ride this morning. I rode the FG so no power and I just went by feel and the occasional glance at the HRM.

I'm going to really miss not making that NSG trip, but it was the right decision.
And hey, my leg feels fine after the crit. Maybe there is truth to that rest-to-heal theory.

Criss-cross, 1 minute and 5 minute intervals this morning, followed by spinning out. I found it hard to keep the power at the target on the 1 minute intervals - as in I was way too high. I finally just gave up and went with it. I'm finding my aerobic capacity can't keep up with my legs. I am way stronger than I once was, but my heart can only supply my legs at high power for a short period of time, and then I get gassed. Age? I thought I was getting younger!

Endurance pace yesterday (2:29, TSS 138, IF .75, 1423 kj) and today (1:57, TSS 125, IF .80, 1191 kj). The temperature hasn't been as bad recently, but the humidity has been atrocious. Recovery day tomorrow, then 6-8 hours endurance pace with some tempo thrown in this weekend. This will be my biggest week in a long time.
