Dang, I feel for you folks in California. Looks like it's going to be moist out there for a while yet. This weekend's weather for me is lows in the 50s, highs in the 70s, slight chance of rain. I'm not rubbing it in - I know that my time will come soon enough. I've got fenders on my training bike, so fewer excuses!

I didn't do squat yesterday. The trainer is coming out today though, right after we take the dogs out for a walk. 30 MPH winds here and rain through the weekend. All my good trainer DVD's are at the other house.

Rain outside and MEA is reading to me from the Costco Catalog. Costco sells 50 million rotisserie chickens per year. Okay, it is time to get on the trainer. I cannot take anymore Costco news or I will shoot myself.

I like to make up more complicated routines on the trainer and change power and cadence and riding position. Sometimes, I imagine myself as other people. As psychologist could have a field day if he got inside my head while I am on the trainer.

Group ride, 1:53. It was supposed to be longer and slower in the announcement, so I need to tack on an additional half hour tomorrow. I'll go out solo to ensure I get what I need.

It sounds like CA and LA have swapped weather patterns. It was cloudless and 60 when we left; it's 76 now, with more of the same tomorrow. My time will come...

It is still raining, so 1:35 in spin class (doing my OWN thing) today. I spent most of the first hour climbing and doing intervals, solidly in Z3 on HR. Then, I did 30 minutes of "TT", Z3 again on HR (132-144). I left three gallons of Sara on the floor in the spin room! I'm hoping my PowerTap LYC shows up today!

Forecast had improved to only 10% chance of showers when I woke up. We hit that 10% pretty much the entire ride up the coast. Pretty caked with grime, but a good workout. At least I was properly fueled:

Our great weather has held. Group ride started at 7:00 and 55 degrees, which gradually warmed to about 70. We did our normal loop to the top of 9-Mile hill, then decided to 'rewind it', so we could pick up a teammate that had a 3x10' hill repeat assignment. I love the fact that the team changed its normal route so we could grab the teammate for the "extension" part of the ride... kinda what the team thing is all about. We ended up at 80 miles and 4.4K of climbing. I kept the Intensity Factor in the target range, but it was still a draining ride due to some intense efforts, including an 18% hill.

Did a simulated Roger's session on the trainer. 20 minute warmup followed by 2 x 1 min z1, 2 min z2, 20 sec z4, 3 min z3. I set z2 power a my low endurance power. I did pursuit cadence at z4. I had my HR monitor on and I set my HR at 10 beats below where it would be if I were outside. So if z2 HR outside is normally 130, I do 120 on the trainer to get the same effect.

All the time on the trainer, the weather kept giving us a head fake. It would get sunny and then 10 minutes later it would pour rain.

I was doing the same thing with my HR, monitor, Hermes. I factored in the temperature, which was high in the room (as was the humidity), which I think probably would allow a further "effect reduction", like maybe 12 beats?

I know someone who has bought (and eaten) at least 12 million of those chickens....

I rode a team ride today. 42 miles with 2,000' climbing @ 224 ave watts. There were three visitors who may join the team. All are cat 2's with one being a pro MTB'er. It was a lot of fun since most of the guys held back due to their cross races tomorrow. I never buried myself on the climbs and rode among some really strong guys.

My workout email came today and tomorrow begins the next cycle. The off season is over.

Third Saturday in a row riding my rain bike. At worst, the past three Saturdays it's sprinkled but the roads have been damp to wet. Clubmates prefer being on my wheel in these conditions. Unfortunately no one else has fenders so I get to enjoy periods of tire spray. 36 damp and cool miles on water and green tea.

Trainer workout HR, power and perceived effort is all over the map for me. In general, the trainer feels a lot harder for the same watts as the road. Theoretically, one could derate heart rate and power for trainer workouts due to higher heat and humidity and number of people in the room. MEA uses up all the oxygen and leaves me carbon dioxide to breathe. The more people in the room the more the concentration of CO2 goes up. Having said all that, I have a lot of experience on the trainer and know how to adjust my workouts to achieve goals.

In solidarity with all of you rained out suckers on the west coast, I am going to take the maiden voyage on my new frame on the trainer tonight.

Out here it's misting and 32 degrees. The roads are about to become a skating rink. Tomorrow will be in the forties. I'll get out and dial the fit in.

I rode the trainer for a few minutes. It wasn't raining, just blowing 30 MPH. So I went outside and rode partway up the mountain. 104 TSS. Going to try to find a hole in the weather tomorrow.

Your very own hyperbolic chamber. Thank the wife for using all the O2 up for you.

It's pouring! I'm supposed to do full power interval training today, but the weather - AND my LYC STILL hasn't shown up! The tracking says it's up in San Jose, at the sort facility, where it has been since Thursday. This isn't on Saris, it's on the USPS. I may do a "modified" training session this afternoon, if the weather breaks. I don't want to do that on the trainer.

If you're not loving the trainer just do a maintenance tempo.

Pouring here and blowing to 90. Flood warnings on the creeks and Truckee River. We have "air" TV and the 49er game is on a channel we don't get. I've been looking for a weather window to mount an outside digital antenna but the last few times we've been here the wind kept me off the roof.

Heading to the sports bar. Come home and either ride the trainer or nap. Or both.

Ex, I don't mind the trainer at all. I've been stuck on it the last few days and wanted to do this one on the road. I made some setup changes to the Look, as well, that I want to try. The trainer doesn't give me the feedback I'm looking for. I'm just pissed about the PT computer, that's all - whining!

I've heard about the Truckee River. I hope all goes well!
