Thanks, I'll take you up on that someday . I was hoping that there were unpublished rides for two buddies of mine (one near Lewisberry and the other in Mechanicsburg). I told them to just show up there. Worst case scenario would have them doing an ad hoc ride on their own. If there is a regular schedule and they would be there, I would try to hang on thier wheel a while

I'll keep you informed; the start times/locations change every Saturday. There is a Tuesday ride Laurie does out of Mech. HS that is a B+ hammerfest. I'll ask her about it when I see her.

So Laurie loaned me her Serotta. . . I rode it last week; not a good fit. But it fit My Dear nicely to try it out. We went for a little instructional ride last Sunday (8 miles - up to the top of Bullfrog Valley and back down. This morning, the three of us headed out on my regular loop (Bullfrog/Schoolhouse/Beagle/Mill/ Aberdeen/Old Hershey/Valley/Bachmanville, etc.). 32 miles, a 13.2 pace. Just what my legs needed after Thursday's hammerfest, and T had a great time chattin' it up with brother Paul and getting his legs under him. Longest ride he's ever done; he loved it and felt great.

And he even witnessed a first for me: as I was zoomin' down Beagle I came upon a snake slithering across the road. . . . no time to stop/swerve, I just tried to time it so he/she/it didn't take a direct hit. I imagined getting the thing caught in my spokes and having it wrap up and whack me in the leg. Some success . . . if I hit it, it wasn't solid, and the Brothers Fitz witnessed it's slithering journey off to the side of the road.

It was a nice day for the Tour de Cure in Harrisburg today. A little hot in the afternoon, but sunny and not too windy.


There was one hill on the route, most of the ride is in the valley shown in the distance.

Perfect day for a ride, wasn't it? I went out for a ride with the Renegades, who rode out of Hershey this week. With the ride over to Fox's and back, we had a nice 60 miles. A little breezy, but beautiful.

Any day on the bike is a good day

Anyone know of any Local MTB group rides besides Yamba? (york county and around)

hey guys

can anyone recommend some riding around Gettysburg? Ill be out there (from the Lehigh Valley) for a wedding over Labor Day and want to bring the 'cross bike for some local historic goodness. Either road or dirt is good!

When I went there I did the driving tour that the park recommends to motorists. It's only about 20 miles but with a lot of interesting stops. West of Gettysburg has more hills. North and North east of Gettysburg has some nice rural roads - but I don't have any specific routes.

Here's the cue sheet for the 50 mile ride for the Civil War Century - which is being run on September 8th this year (not sure if this is the weekend after your visit or not). You could pick this up in the battlefield in the 2nd column and go from Confederate Ave onward, and simplyeither re-rrace your steps, or turn your bikes around and ride from the start of the ride and follow the cue until you're back at Confederate Ave.

The hills aren't too bad on this ride. If you want tougher (or easier/shorter), I can scare up the map and cue sheet links for the other rides in this event.

I was there as well - riding for Capital Blue Cross. We did the century Saturday and 75 Sunday - Saturday felt great, Sunday required about a 20 mile warmup to get the legs going. We couldn't have asked for better weather!

So how did you like the "Last Hill" sign on the road about 10 miles out from M'ville?

Perhaps our paths crossed somewhere out there . . .

I'm the captain for "Team Lifelion". Most of us did the century on sat, myself and another did the 75 ...ummm, let's say 78 (bad route markings) on sunday. I know exactly the hill you refer to ... I'm thinking that's the one where you're almost at the top and a family is sitting outside on the front lawn drinking cold Lager (and offering some if you stop - had to think long and hard about that one !) Was a little sore on sunday morning, got to the lunch stop and thought about padding my shorts with the sandwiches instead of eating them Had a great time though - it was our teams second year. Most of us have gone on to join the HBC following last years ride and we get out quite frequently - any of you guys ride with the club ?

The "last hill" was on the century route on Saturday. It was the last somewhat steep climb (a measured 12%) up from the creek, just a mile or two before the final rest stop. Some goofball painted "Last Hill" along with the green arrow route marking. As you know, those last few miles were anything BUT flat. Fortunately I was feeling great and didn't believe it anyway, but a whole lot of people were complaining about the psyche trick of that one.

Actually, the whole group in the photo rides with the HBC (except for the guy on the far left, who moved out of the area last year). Obviously I'm the "girl" in the center; the guy on my left is the HBC president and the captain of the Blue Cross team (or Grand Poobah I call 'im). We all ride and/or lead the Hershey B rides out of Briarcrest Mondays and Thursdays as well as occasionally out of Mechanicsburg. Do you ever join in on the Hershey rides? A good bunch. . .

Have done several Briarcrest rides and Mech HS rides - all C+ however I felt as if I could be going at a better pace - have been hesitant about doing "B" rides so early in my newly found cycling habit but I just might give that group a try - maybe this Thursday.

You should just jump into the B's. The main difference is that the C+ group tends to stop . . . a lot . . . and the B's don't. Also, the pace of the C+ group slows considerably after a climb. The B group is not considered a "no-drop" ride. The group will occasionally split into a couple of different paces, though.

I'm pretty sure I'll be there this Thursday, and I'm not tough to find - not too many girls out there. Look for the red/gold Cannondale. I'll be glad to stay with you if you're at all concerned about the pace.
