This 4 Reservoirs bit looks nuts. I wish I was in better shape, I would join you for the whole thing. Im thinking of just hopping in for the Prettyboy section... I live next to Wally's so I was thinkin of meetin up with the ride at mt.carmel and pb Dam and getting a few miles in - with an 8am start when do you think you might hit that zone?

GB, you always come up with the coolest rides.
This has been the week from HECK at work! I am so ready to just dive headlong into chaos this weekend, in as many formats as possible -- the goal being that by Sunday night, I'm draped on the couch like a limp dishrag, the cats wondering what the hell is the matter with me. Given the current weather outlook, I'm thinking bike Saturday (either haul myself up around Prettyboy, too, or maybe do my "boring BWI century"), kayak at Dundee on Sunday. The scheduling of daytime plans will be fluid, depending on the outcomes of the evening shenanigans. :D Friday night, an expedition with friends to that bastion of redneck/white trash culture, Cancun Cantina, to catch "The Amish Outlaws" show -- good times!! Saturday night, to totally reverse the dynamics, I'll be one of a tiny minority of melanin-challenged individuals celebrating two friends' birthdays at a dinner-and-dance bash at Eden's Lounge. Report (hopefully sans incriminating photos) Monday. ;) |

The worst climb is dogwood rd just out of Baltimore- the rest is hilly, but no serious grades. and very shady. "sans incriminating"?? That doesn't play here. :D |
At the Tour du Port volunteer meeting the "did you see that crazy ride the BBC is doing on Sunday?" topic came up. "Ya those guys are animals, gluttons for punishment ... oh you might being doing the ride as well? Then I guess it can't be that bad."

My weekend plans:
Saturday (solo ride???) http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/route_det..._routeID=23989 http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/map_get.p...mapType=Street http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/chart_get..._route&units=1 Sunday (BBC group ride) - This map is a little off. The ride ends where it started. It doesn't include my ride into the city and back home--that's an extra 20 miles. http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/route_det..._routeID=23990 http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/map_get.p...mapType=Street http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/chart_get..._route&units=1 If anyone else is interested in Saturday, let me know. |
Mayor's ride
1 Attachment(s)
Anybody doing the Mayor's ride tonight at 5pm. She is riding up to Montebello with families, something like that. Here's what I picked up on Roland Ave. this morning. Was all the way in, had to screw it back out. I don't think I'm doing any more city riding with my Bontrager Race X Lites.

Barry,
Have whomever said that come out for the ride. I'll "work'em over" for you! ;) I was out in Towson today for a lunch time meeting and then I headed down to City Hall and my rear tire just started to fall apart like a cheep retread. So I hobbled down to Light St to get a new tire, missing the Mayor's ride (but I heard it got canceled) then on the way home I got a flat but at least I managed to miss the rain all day, it just started to rain when my key entered the lock, amazing timing with everything. |
Well, no 150 mile ride today. I slept in until 7am and I'm finding it difficult to get the motor started.
On one hand, a rest day would do me good, especially before tomorrow's ride, since some of us aren't rocking a triple. ;) And, on the other hand, I'm still trying to hit 1,200 miles per month for the SPP Mileage Challenge. So, today, I might just do an easy ride to nowhere in particular just to keep the legs moving. Maybe, I'll just set the heart rate monitor for 125 beats per minute and reign back whenever I exceed that limit. See ya at the zoo, |

Uh oh, 9pm, no ride report or updates for the res. ride? everyone must be bar hopping. Hope everyone gets/got home safe.
I managed few miles this weekend due to the wife having a lame horse and tending to that saturday. Saturday-10 miles? before the rain and thunder came that evening Sunday-15 miles, out to Northpoint Park and back, 1/2 in the dark. I did have one girl say my front lighting was "sick" as I was coming up the road and passing, imagine if she say the death star. Gotta get the miles when ya can right. |
The res ride was good! GB, NR, Tim, Janet and myself showed up at the ride start, Carl joined us north of Ellicott City. I had mechanical problem somewhere after mile 10 (rear derailleur hit the spokes and got bent) which took me a bit of time to fix. So I went into warp drive (since the bike route is curved like time and space I was able to exceed the speed of light using warp technology ;) and caught up with the group at the rest stop at mile 78. The hip is still not recovered enough to keep up with these guys but I had fun.

124 miles--running on fumes by the time I got home. Not bad considering BiM reported over 10,000 of climbing and I haven't been doing much climbing at all riding in Delaware so much.
Also, I didn't have any breakfast, then I missed the turn for Wally's to stop for lunch, riding the entire Spooks Hill Rd. I sent a text message to Bob to let him know. It was too late to go back since I was already at Armacost Rd by the time I sent it. It wasn't until Jacksonville before I had something to eat. I was out of fluids by then, too. Instead of going all of the way back to the Baltimore Conservatory, at Joppa Rd I took a left heading to Towson--yet another set of climbs and I was experiencing some cramping. It was a very slow grind but I made it. From there I followed by usual route home from work starting from Putty Hill Rd. Thanks, Bob! It was torturous by the end and I won't want to do it again anytime soon. I'll be driving in to work tomorrow. I need a "V"cation (said Arnold in Terminator 2). |
I was probably in the same area of you guys though maybe a bit earlier. 45 miles out to Butler and then over to Corbett Rd. Loch Raven area, Manor Rd. etc. Repaired three flats for my ride mates and fixed one front deraileur, that's a lot for a 45 mile ride.
I definitely don't have time to do 100 mile rides on a regular basis, but I have the "event" rides for that. Doing the Bay Country Century, CWC, which is sold out by the way. I know why they imposed a limit but I bet they get a lot of people wanting to register and probably riding the route anyway if they can't. It's such an event like the Seagull. |
So, my weekend was largely a bust as far as biking went. I kind of knew it would be, but I didn't think it would be *that* bad!
A dear friend of mine that I just don't get to hang out with as much anymore had e-mailed me Wednesday to tell me to come out with her and her boyfriend's family crew to Cancun Cantina in Hanover to see "The Amish Outlaws." I couldn't possibly turn that down!! (Seriously, if you've never seen these guys, they are one of the most entertaining and musically talented bar cover bands of all time. The diversity of songs they play is incredible -- 50 Cent, Johnny Cash, Men Without Hats, Bon Jovi, a rousing full-crowd-participation rendition of "Come Sail Away" by Styx -- they are a hoot! And they're really Amish, too (most of them); well, non-practicing, obviously.) http://www.amishoutlaws.com/ So, it was a late night (an early morning, actually ), but I figured I'd just get up early and suffer. I only had 3 light beers all night (and I was dancing like an idiot pretty much all night, too :D) so I figured I'd be fine, but I woke up with an excruciating headache. ??? So I didn't get out until later in the afternoon, and just rode up to the airport and did 2 laps . . . 'cause I had to nap and get ready to go out again Saturday night, LOL! The can't-say-no factor there was a friend's birthday, which she was celebrating along with another girl whose birthday is around the same time. Eden's Lounge in Mt. Vernon -- about as far away from the Cancun Cantina vibe as you can get and still be in the same time-space dimension. :D I was good and left relatively early, but after I got home, I realized I'd forgotten my phone in the car. As I was walking back around the side of the house, in the dark I put a foot wrong and stepped off my sidewalk into the sloping dirt. I didn't fall down (maybe I should have!) but in the process of not falling down, I managed to wrench my back really painfully. It was aching murderously early this morning; by late afternoon it wasn't so bad, so . . . another 26-mile expedition to the airport, and that's it. LAME! :D This will be a busy week, trying to wrap some stuff up at work before I head down to the Outer Banks on Saturday for a week. I'm bringing a bike, so hopefully I'll have something more entertaining to report! |
The 4 Reservoirs Tour trip report. (apologies to those on the BBC list)
We had lovely weather on sunday for a rolling tour of the Reservoirs. A healthy (for my rides) group of 5 at the start. We paused at the bottom of Dogwood hill looking for Don at about 8:55-9:00 Alas. That hill was likely the hardest grade of the day. Good to be done with it while the legs were fresh. We went from 5 riders to 4 when Barry's spokes took a bite at his rear derailleur (or was it the other way 'round?) He told the rest of us to roll on without him. Then a few miles later we were 5 again when we intersected with Tom who was looking for us. Good stuff. We got into an easy "long ride" cruising speed, clearing Lake Liberty and stopping briefly in Finksburg for sugars and ice. Up to and over Prettyboy ducking into (mostly) and out of the cool canopy of the trees. Isaias got a bit ahead of the group as we neared Wally's for lunch and missed one of the last cues. When Tim and I showed up at Wally's there was no pink BBC jersey to be found. Isaias texted me that he realized he missed the cue and wasn't planning on turning back- he'd finish the ride by himself. During lunch I was excited to meet the legendary Greg Conderacci (who rolled in while we were eating) and was amazed that my reputation had proceeded myself- he had been wanting to meet me! Also, while we were eating, we met Daniel, a Cat 1 racer who was getting his legs back for regular racing. He had had a flat that morning and couldn't make the ride start so he rode up to Wally's to find us. So, then we were 5 again. Down to Prettyboy dam and back up. A long slog for the entirety of Corbett over to Jarrettsville. ... and who's that crazy man in a pink jersey waving at us from across the interesection? Ha! Isaias and with him- Barry !! Barry had fixed his RD and then bent the space time continuum getting to Jarrettsville before us, meeting Isaias and waiting for us. Now we were 7 The final leg brought us over Loch Raven and back into the Towson 'burbs. I stopped with Isaias and Tim one more time and that's when Janet made her move. (I knew she would) She and Tom blew past us foregoing the ice water to be the 1st to finish. Tim and I hauled ourselves up Ruxton, Falls and Lake ave hils, finally cruising back to the start. Good times. Good ride. Thanks all. -Bob a few pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2797683.../08/24/detail/ |

Sounds like a good ride. I was on Corbett from York all the way to Old York, surprisingly hilly as I'm used to the other direction. I was probably on that stretch around 11:30 am.

Finally got the blog report up:
http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/25960 I combined Bob's, Barry's, and my report from here (BF) for the blog. By the way Bob, ceiling collapse above my tub from Saturday's rain. :twitchy: Found it when I got home. I stayed home today calling roofers for estimates and visiting my bank to start the processing for a home equity line of credit. :notamused: |

Look on the bright side . . . at least the collapse didn't occur while you were half-dozing in a nice warm bubble bath . . . :) |
