Wow. Very nice work- from the Atala commuter (beautiful, but I wouldn't want to ride it) to the Bridgestone RB-1 (a classic). Lug chroming and lug outlining. Pretty cool stuff.
Speaking of Treks- did you guys see the 2010 Trek District? Black, single speed, modified Madone Carbon frame and belt drive. A steal for a commuter bike- only $3300  GB-I recall seeing a gray Trek District single speed, maybe that was an 09. I would love to try the no lube belt drive. |
Seems that link to figureengineering is dead.

Know any good routes? We can do Ba trail to annapolis? or if your up for climbing we can do collage ave etc.... We can ride my side of town to havre de grace and back about 65 miles I think (plenty of places to stop for a drink or bite, not too much climbing.) or anywhere else doesn't matter, I just like getting in miles early and having the rest of the day. |

Hmmm... I must have misspelled something. (hey, I'm just a TV news guy not some fancy newspaper writer :D ) As for the District... WOW. That thing is sweet. But I could put that $3300 to other uses. |
btw...
I saw that US Army bike in person and it is really cool. My color scheme will be kind of like that Specialized but the frame will be a little darker, not that charcoal. The lugs will be a nice yellow and the gfx will be gloss black. I asked earlier but it got mixed up in another convo... Do folks on here ever get together for wrench-o-thons? |

ahem... There may well be that added benefit. I have an affinity for good craft beer as I am past the Natty Boh stage of my life.
Even thought I don't have the tools, I might be able to host an interesting event up near Berkeley Springs, WV. My folks just bought a second home up there and it has a good sized garage. The ladies who don't want to wrench can go into Berkeley Springs and do a little shopping (yeah, yeah I know I'll catch hell for that comment.) or maybe just chill at the house in the hot tub or sauna. This is a very cool area that is on the Cacapon River. |

7am sounds good, that way I don't really need a headlight, you live somewhere near catonsville right? I'm kinda a route ****** (I usually pick one road and ride on it for miles at a time with no destination other than mileage)

If you rather stay on the east side let me know where to meet. It has to be an easy meeting location as I can't communicate with you until Saturday morning. I head to Old Rag tomorrow for the day and will not see a compute until late tomorrow night. Just decide what meeting place(S. camp Meade, My house or East side) and what time. I'll be there. GB,
Thanks for the route suggestion. Looks very good. One small glitch. The destination has now changed from Hopkins Hospital to the Greenebaum Cancer Center at 22 S Greene St. Suggestions on the best way to get there, again using the northeast approach? Thanks in advance dww

porzana,
I changed my mind. Using Manor rd and Dulaney seems to get you too far west. here's how I'd go: |
Trek-I found the link to the painter. It was an abbreviated address different from your link. I sent them an e-mail. I imagine if I go with them I'll just ship it over.
What is this 50 mile ride, when? I'm doing Bay Country century on Saturday. Check this out. Some of the shots are stunning, like that ridge line checkpoint towards the end. I'm getting my mtb ready for some fall/winter riding so psyched. http://raceacrossthesky.com/ and more bike porn. http://twitpic.com/dunga |

Cancer Center at 22 S Greene St. ..... Thanks in advance Well... since you're scooting back across to the westside, I'm changing my mind again and taking you back over Loch Raven. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.054245&z=15 Two sections of google's mapping are wrong: You CAN go straight on Loch Raven dr. until you make a R on Providence rd. (sometimes the road is closed to cars) Also, at Falls rd. you can make a simple R on Maryland ave. (don't know why googlemaps does that round-the-block thing there) Enjoy the ride. -GB |
Anyone else want to go? meet at 8am @ bike doctor linthicum for a ride to annapolis?
I'm riding from my house to there. |

Hey y'all. I've got a beer ride variation idea for Sept. 27th.
This is the same sunday as Maxine's 24hr. charity ride. I want to ride down extra early sunday morning and give her some encouragement. Her ride is in Columbia about 1/2 mile south of Victoria Gastro Pub Anyone wanna ride down with me to cheer on Max and maybe head over to the beer pub later in the morning? Charlie, if you're up for it we could stop at your place too. (maybe even bring Max an illicit IPA) I have to be back in B'more by 3pm so, I like to head down just after sunrise. |

And if anyone is looking for a ride on Monday, the Severna Park Peloton is doing a ride down to North Beach from either the Davidsonville park and ride or Shipley's whatever-it's-called around Benfield and East West Blvd. Heck, I got to ride with NoRacer today, maybe more can join us on Monday and give him incentive to come back out on Monday. :) |

Sorry, GB, I intended doing the ride out of Oregon Ridge, but the legs are very sore from the cramps and Carl, I never made it to the cheeseburger--stomach is still a little sensitive, so I had a protein shake in skim milk. |
Saturday Ride Report
Left my house about 640am to give my self plenty of time to get to BD to meet w/charlie, toon annapolis rd all the way to camp meade road past my old neighborhood. Got to BD 740ish, slowly rider after rider trickled in for BD saturday moring ride, Then charlie and the mustache bars showed up, before we left we got some food at a bakery next to BD. We took the BA trail around the airport to WB & A low traffic roads good route by charlie. Neither one of us had any issues no cramps (like last time), no flats. We got to Arnold Station and since I had to be at the inlaws by noon we stopped at McD @ 10am grabbed a bagel and a drink and headed back. Then on the way back we joked about how funny it wold be to run into Barry like I did last time. Sure enough 10 minutes later I saw a blinding red light from about 10 miles ahead, caught up and it was none other than NR, We hung with him for a few minutes and we were off again. I called the wife right after me and charlie split at andover. Only then does she tell me that doesn't plan on going to the tutor!!!! Had she told me this a half hour ago we could have done more miles, figures. All in all good ride and good route. 60 miles 14.5 avg all done before noon. Charlie, you have any idea how much climbing there was? There was one nice descent but I don't know the road. |

BCC Report-Got up at 4:45, my friend Scott Patterson picked me up at 5:30 and off we go. Scott is one of the guys who I had been doing the Sunday Fells Point ride with, he like some of the others are now into bigger distances, just got his first road bike (Janis?) and this would be his first century. I didn't eat breakfast as I never can at that hour, but I had a healthy pasta dinner the night before. I'm trying to lose weight so wanted to do the ride without too much cake and such mid ride, and my stomach didn't want it anyway. Pretty much did the ride on Perpetuem, gels, and a few pretzels, plenty of HEED. First 25 is getting warmed up, averaging 17.5, rolling hills. It's clear that you can save a TON of energy grabbing onto a pace line, which I only did briefly, and my friend Scott isn't quite comfortable with that technique yet, but picked up the concept very quick. A few guys latched onto us but wouldn't take a pull, that pisses me off, had to shake more than a few of these freeloaders, happens every time. It's okay when they're cool about it, you can tell. It's a different workout when you do a century on your own into the wind, I did suck off of Scott's wheels a bit though:D Second 25 I just didn't feel great, back hurt, not riding smart, pretty much had it in my big ring for the first 50, it's a compact so that's a little different, anyway not smart for my knees or maintaining some sort of aerobic groove. Ran into Teacher Bob at the first rest stop, he and his 20mph avg group were on their way back out, Carol Sildoff was with them so I guess she is recuperating pretty well from her Bike Va. accident. I drank constantly and thought I was doing a pretty good job of keeping up with my hydration, but sure enough I feel the first twinges of hamstring cramps, which I can stave off for a bit with easier pedaling, but at about 60 miles I get locked up on both legs going up-hill. Get off the bike, shake the legs a bit, drink and get going, it's just pain. After the 80 mile rest stop they offer pie which is definitely not what I crave, by the way I downed like eight Endurolytes and still cramped up. But after that rest stop I was cooking, not sure what it was. My friend Scott who is much lighter and an avid runner was doing great all day until about 85m. I love finishing a century strong, and I love passing people on tri bikes. The event was fairly well run, a bit steep at $45 but it goes to the club and the sub and cake at the end really hit the spot. The drive down and back is always a pain. Next week I expect to do the CWC and if I don't party too hard Saturday night then the Indian Head on Sunday. |
Wifes has got to work noon to 6, so that killed my century plans for today, if lucky maybe I'll get in a ride about 9am.

Osler Drive alternative
[QUOTE=HC203;9617221]
Osler has no shoulder whatsoever, terrible for cycling, though I believe it has two lanes so take one of them. Alternately you can wind your way through the neighborhoods of Wiltondale and Stoneleigh then into Rodgers Forge and over to Bellona. I can map it if you like. QUOTE] Thanks, HC. Yes, would like to see a map of your route that bypasses Osler. porzana |
Blowup
Out for a 45 today with two friends. My state of the art Trek exterior bottom bracket bearings totally blow up on Dover Rd. around Dark Hollow. Sin of all sins I have my wife come and get us. Totally unridable though, crank was wobbling like aplanet out of it's orbit- and whenever you hear the sounds of parts grinding against each other like a jar of broken glass-you stop.
