"What was it like way back then?" The this-month-in-history of the MD Peeps thread.
This time last year(2008) We were figuring out the when and where for "Tour de Beer". (which of course makes me ask myself that question for this year). Josh and GB ride out to Frederick together, and on the return Josh thinks that the interstate might make a faster route home. So, he knocks out a few miles on I-70. NR is finishing centuries like they’re going out of style. Year before that(2007) NR and Barry were comparing the results of their new helmet cams- both shaky. GB's new Bianchi gets ripped off near the courthouse during jury duty. NR does not manage to keep the rubber side down during a Nov. BBC ride. He posts pics (not suitable for family viewing) of the damage to his backside. :twitchy: Barry also goes down on RR trx, tacoing the wheel on the original truck bike. And the year before that(2006)- Thread is just getting started, but there’s already activity by "old-timers” NR, Charlie, ccrider, RacerMike, Barry and Maxine. NR is rendered “car-free” because a drunk smashes into his truck while parked at his house. He is also pushing hard to hit 10k miles for 2006. (slacker ;)) ...and, just like this season every year, we're all complaining about the weather. So there you have it- the this-month-in-history of the MD Peeps thread. (ok, so yeah, it's a little slow here at work) For those curious to see the carnage from last time... OUCH! A Turkey Day (Thanksgiving) ride (slip & crash) |
This is funny, but IMHO there's more types than these 6. Which one are you most like?

Well. I can't say I am as hardcore as you all but this has been my first week of trying to get into a diversified workout which includes riding to the gym, I think of it more as a way from point A to B, not calculating mileage or recording it as part of my workout, but climbing up Bellemore after a 45 minute spinning class plus weights is GREAT! and I don't have to sit in traffic like a ******. I did it Tuesday and Friday, I think Wednesday but I can't remember. Friday was wet and cold but it's such a short trip it aint no no thang. I have my mt bike rigged with my Nightrider lights, back being very very bright and blinky, seat post bag plus my backpack. The mtb makes for a good urban assault vehicle as you can jump up curves to avoid distracted drivers, etc. There are at least three good rides getting back to my house, all include climbing, of course. Bellemore, Lake (traffic!), Poplar Hill, mtb comes in handy here, and through Rob E Lee park to Woodbrooke for some dirt and pavement, though getting back across Charles is a *****-cars cars cars, and more f-ing cars!!
Today I drove to the gym as I woke up late and half of my wet wear was in the wash, but Saturday morning traffic is minimal. |
^^^^^
At least someone got out on the bike today. Good job. Me, I'm sitting around storing energy (i.e., eating and napping w/a planned beer or two later) to be ready for Bob's [wet and windy] Point-to-Point 100 mile ride tomorrow. @Bob--if you are going to cancel, you'd better get the word out early if DC RAND is coming from DC. EDIT--Ah, I see you posted to BBC Talk--ride on rain or shine. Ok... ok. |

Holy crap. I'm looking at the weather for tomorrow, 90% precip and temps in the 40s. Good luck on that point to point- hardcore indeed!!
I'm oiling before I leave--nothing to do with lubrication, but more to repel water from skin and clothing. |

Finally got out w/my new magicshine light for 15-20minutes, only 3 word to describe how bright it is
1.wow 2.wow 3.wow It turned night into day, brighter than anything else I ever had. For only $85. High is really bright really more than plenty, Medium close to high probally use most of the time, low is still brighter than my other LED lights, flashing mode is insanely fast good for daytime?,then the useless SOS mode, just in case the bike and I take a wrong turn and end up on a deserted sland. Maybe one evening I'll do some beam shots. On my short ride I did notice how cold it was as my face was freezing, found my balaclava for the ride in tommorow, Gotta love the lows in the 40's and the high's in the 70's, better than it raining though. |
Ride report is in progress, but there's some stuff on Twitter now.

Josh: Thanks for the review of the light. I've been reading about them. Seems I've got enough lumen this year but maybe next. We'll see how well they perform over the long haul. Will you be commuting with it? |
Point-to-Point Ride - Ride report (long - yes, longer than usual):
http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/27458 [I swear there's no scareware in this link  ] This is Part 1. Part 2 covers leaving from the restaurant after dinner. Not much to it other than I had to take a detour due to a freight train that couldn't seem to get across Boston Street. Back and forth it went, never really going anywhere. I had my fill of it after standing by the crossing gate for 20 minutes. I went up O'Donnell Street instead. [What a pisser while riding the streets of Baltimore at 8pm] Here's a link to GB's photoset of the ride: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2797683...7622619391592/ |

Looks balmy. Seems like a decent turnout considering the weather. Your afternoon looked nice, a little chilly but I saw the sun peaking out.

CWC Mid Week Sunny Day Re-Ride, Oct 21st
Hey a few of us are going to re-ride the 3/4 century route of the 2009 Civil War Century tomorrow; this time in SUNNY weather! Meeting in Thurmont Park (across the road from where the BBC reg tents were set up) at 9 AM. No particular schedule from there on, but will stop in Smithsburg (30miles) and Gettysburg (55 miles) for lunch. This was a beautiful ride even in the rain in September. We're thinking it will be even more so in the sun with the leaves changing colors. E-mail me if you're inclinded to join us. Anticipated pace will be 15 -16 MPH average is my best guess.

Any interests in hooking up for this? Super easy for me to meet at Owings Mills, but if there is a larger Columbia contingent I'll go there.
I expect it will eventually be released on DVD then I'll have a private viewing party at my house-10' screen! and free popcorn + beer. |

In fact, I like Harry's movie night idea whether this movie is out on DVD soon or not. I've been interested in seeing this new film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1329390/ |
