This is grossly unfair, those of us (and you know who you are) are freaks of nature and do not represent the "typical" cyclist and when a "typical" cyclist is first confronted by "our" kind it is only natural to ask questions to seek understanding. Not understanding initially and giving crap are two different things.

As far as the BBC not being involved in the city, the city's first bike racks were from the BBC, funding for the Gwynns Falls Trail and Jones Falls Trail was largely in part do to the BBC (Bob Moore), Baltimore Bike Master Plan again the BBC played a significant part (though Mark C, then of OLC helped drive it home.) Tour dem Parks was the brain child of Bob Moore and Penny Troutner (Light St Cycles.)

All advocacy boils down to one individual, when Bob Moore passed away I tried to fill his shoes, now that I am going it is up to someone else to step up. The BBC is a group of volunteers and what the club does and does not do is simply up to someone to do stuff.

I'm going to try to make it to the next BBA meeting to see if I can get people excited about MDOT underspending its bike/ped budget by $20 million and what negative impact that has on Baltimore County.

Cycling, heck just hanging out down there. Back in the day ('60s)when was I was a teen (before the inner harbor was built up) folks did not venture deep into most of the city. The inner harbor was warehouses, piers, drugs and crime, Cherry Hill was the heroin capital for the mid-atlantic region, downtown had riots in '68. Now we shop, bike, party down there. I remember the first Baltimore city fair in the inner harbor. Pretty sketching looking area. If the BBC admin is my age or older then they have a deep seated fear of the town. Time heals all, some just heal a little slower than others.

Thanks for the insight. There is definitely a feeling amongst some of the cycling community that this is not the case. (I do not mean our conversation here). Just talking to some people I kinda got a different feeling. I'm very glad you posted. I'll see you on Tuesday night.

No heat problems today even though near the end it was hot and humid and I was pushing the pace blocking the wind for tandem and Janet G. The only electrolyte supplement that I used was Nuun.

I'll most likely do a very easy short spin early tomorrow morning, rest for a while and take my parents out to dinner in the evening.

Very cool pics.
Jeez, those RAAM racers are another breed. As grueling as that ride is and then to get into Annapolis with barely anyone at the finish. Hard to stay motivated.
Of course, I bet Kevin probably didn't care much about who was there. He probably felt good inside and was ready for a shower and a serious nap.

A real hot wknd(especially Sunday) No riding for me as I ended up helping my climbing buddy move on Saturday. Family stuff on Sunday.

None for me, either. One of my two pool teams made it to the qualifiers to go to the national championship in Vegas in August. We had to win three matches -- noon on Saturday, 7:00 p.m. on Saturday; noon on Sunday. I love shooting pool, but making it to higher-level playoffs (which we do often) and especially to the NQs (which we've done once before) means spending an inordinate amount of weekend time in a Dundalk pool hall that bears a passing resemblance to a much darker, much louder Home Depot. Which I don't particularly love.

We won the first match, but lost the second, so I had Sunday free. But because we lost, we go back again *this* weekend for the "second chance" brackets -- we need 3 wins again, same schedule. So I had to assume that this weekend would be blown out of the water, too. And I'm leaving on the following Thursday (1 July) for a 5-day camping trip at Niagara Falls, so I used yesterday to sort out my stuff, see what replacements/additions I needed, and then went off on the shopping expedition.

So looks like it will be just commuting again for this week. I was toying with the idea of bringing a bike with me on the camping trip, if I have enough time between now and then (doubtful!) to poke around on the Interwebz and see if I can come up with a decent bike ride route up there.

I could've been faster, but:

1 - I could not read the cuesheet later to find out that it wasn't printed in the normal fashion and the typeface was a little small for my eyes (I should have checked it out before we started--my fault)
2 - I had several mock attacks against the group, but couldn't sustain it because I wasn't sure where the next turn would be.
3 - There were two Kelly Benefit guys and one other who were game to finish ahead of everyone else, but I did not leave with them at the midpoint--prior to that, I was with them and we had a good paceline going
4 - during the second half, I waited for Bill Gary and Janet G, then Bill dropped off (back tightening up). The wind started getting to Janet. She started getting into one of her foul moods. I waited for her up until the last few miles where I started pulling for a tandem and she dropped off. I stopped and waited for her in Chesapeake City, where she just zipped right by me. ?? I won't make that mistake again.

I believe that's with stopping, naps etc. Maybe I'm wrong. Great radiolab broadcast on the crazies. Those people are wacky, Juri especially, talks about the hallucinations, scary.

I did 150 miles this week total, broken into 20, 30, 40 mile increments, the way I like it. I guess with my 20 mile morning rides I get 100+ a week-but I stopped counting, don't really see the point.

Before doing RAAM you need to try something easier like the ADK 501 or the Furnace Creek 508, there's also the Race across the West. Those are qualifiers of course.

nevermind, not coming from Camden. I forgot my folding bike has a bad tire(died on B2WD). Since MARC doesn't allow full sized bikes I must ride from Catonsville tonight.

Thanks! We have to win three matches this weekend -- 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, noon on Sunday. If we win all three, we're off to Vegas. If we lose any one, we're out (unless we draw the wild card slot.)

Between the NQs tying up two weekends, work being insane during the week, and trying to get stuff in order for the camping trip, I'm just about fried. I may not be able to make it to the Bike Alliance happy hour (but, boy, do I really need a beer! )

Saturday I picked up my rewelded Xtracycle frame from BBW, a new derailleur and some spokes to get my ride up and running (in all about $100) (and sheesh all that damage from one stray stick.) On Sunday I noticed a striped spoke nipple so I hoped on my daughters bike, Joe's did not have the right sized spoke, Princeton did not have it either so back down to BBW on a bike too small for me. It turns out that BBW has a machine that can make spokes any size, so besides what appears to be really good frame welding they also do custom sized spokes. The more I deal with these guys the more I really like them. So I spent the rest of Sunday was spent truing the wheel and Monday morning the rest of the bike was together.

This morning I road in to work with my daughter. We left the same time she normally does to catch the bus which of course left us enough time to stop for breakfast. I also got to show her a cut thru a neighborhood to stay off the busy roads a bit longer which she really appreciated.

So while I blew out one knee riding a bike too small for me on Sunday I am up and riding again and will hopefully see some of you tonight at the BBA. I even got a special invite from Carol.
