We could. I don't mind keeping it low key as well. I have another person or 2 not on BF probably going. I do want to get an early start.

I am on the fence with Covered Bridges. It was awesome riding with such a big BF group. But honestly I thought the ride kinda sucked overall. Maybe because it was so hot and the fact that the best rest stop wasn't even part of the ride.

Getting lost and having to make up a 15 min deficit at the beginning to catch you guys too kinda wasn't fun.

Ok here is another Baltimore route puzzler. I have a friend who started riding this past year. He just bought himself a new bike and wants to start riding to work. He lives just south of BWI, about a mile due south of the BWI trail loop on WB&A. He works at Constellation Energy. Which is basically the corner of Pratt and President St.

He really wants to try doing it, but has concerns about riding through some "bad" neighborhoods. He mentioned Cherry Hill. I don't know anything about the neighborhoods so I haven't been able to figure out a route that he would feel comfortable riding.

He should be able to connect up with this route: https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Balto-Annapolis (if he has any difficulties let me know.) Depending on the sensitivity to bad neighborhoods there are 0, 0.8 or 1.5 miles worth of not really that bad of bad neighborhoods on the route.

Hey Don; I did this ride too! 51.6ish miles in 3:18 with 3 very short breaks. I missed a turn which added on the extra mileage (they need to do a little bit better job on the cue sheet for next year IMO). The one turn that I think quite a few people missed was not marked clearly at all.

I would recommend that he test potential routes on an early Saturday morning to get a feel for them. Human car is right, there really is not too much to worry about. The worst thing in my opinion is the horrid condition of the road surface on all neighborhoods adjacent to patapsco ave.

My preference is to take the Gywns falls trail past the Greyhound station, then get on Annapolis rd at the power station along Russell. Take that to Waterview, go right, then immediate left to remain on Annapolis. Take it across patapsco ave and all the way to Nursery, right on Nursery then left on Hammonds Ferry which will take you to Andover and the BWI trail.

Angelo, I keep meaning to try your route but I always seem to forget it when I am out there. So what I ended up trying coming home was Camp Meade Rd (170) Baltimore Annapolis Blvd (648.) Which scores points on being direct but I am still undecided which route may offer the better comfort factor, that certainly wasn’t bad but most of the traffic was going the opposite way so the experience may be different if you’re riding with the majority of traffic.

Its been a while since I have posted anything on this site, but I have made the leap and am in the process of building a singlespeed road bike. I just needed something other than my full suspension mountain bike to cruise around town on, and not feel so paranoid when I have it locked up outside. Whats next....spandex?

Hope y'all can ride on "bike to work day" tomorrow. I hope to ride all the way (27 miles each way) and forgo the train. we'll see how I feel at 6:00am. Rode almost 35 today(commute & rec). I'm not going to any of the meeting spots as none meet between the 2 cities. Anybody else riding to the meeting spots? Riding to work? Be safe Charlie
PS I haven't been posting much as work has been really busy and we have a new group running our server at work.

I've been toying w/ the same idea. I live in Catonsville and figure I can't use it around my hood. Too many hills and my knees are too old. I was going to use it for rail trails. It would be good for Balto city tho'. Is that where you live?

I’m heading down to City Hall in Baltimore with my 12 year old daughter. I’m riding 10 miles in and my Daughter is aiming to do 7 miles (she did 5 miles last year.) Here is a pic from last year of us in route:
https://www.baltometro.org/images/sto...06/2006-09.htm

The guy in the suit is Al Fox Director of Transportation, next me and then my daughter.

And in case you are wondering how me and my daughter bike together and end up with different mileage on pg 5 of https://www.baltimorecity.gov/governm...ing_2_2006.pdf

Shows our other mode.

BTW Eva Khoury our new bike/ped coordinator will be there if have not had the chance to met her, stop and say hi.

Since I started racing, I've had to work back up to including commuting with race training. This past week was the first week of both, except that Wednesday's Greenbelt race got rained out.

Anyway, I went to the Towson Courthouse for Bike2Work. It was a little chilly from the winds out of the northeast once one cooled down from the trip. They had free bananas, bagles, and coffee, as well as the t-shirts, bags, and ankle/wrist reflectors for those who registered.

Ah Man! I was hoping the lack of ride report would go unnoticed.

The short answer, I wussed out.

The longer answer. I have been burning the candle at both ends lately. Between a very heavy workload (I lost a consultant 6 weeks ago, anyone wanna job?) and a daughter giving me fits about sleeping at night I got to my parents extremely exhausted. I packed everything planning on riding. But by 2pm I was just spent. Mentally I really wanted to ride, but physically I was a mess. I was shaky like too much caffeine but due to fatigue. I decided that instead of riding home I would drive.

So I stopped at the Thai take out, and had dinner and a real conversation with my wife. Then watched a little TV with her and went to bed by 8:30pm. I am still kicking myself for not riding, but I know it was the right choice.

I will have plenty more opportunities to do the ride since I am taking the kids down every friday through the summer.

What do you do w/ your daughter once you get to work? I can never go downtown on BTWD since I have to head towards DC. If I ever buy a folder I will go downtown, then hop on the train. I want to meet that lady Eva. Give me advanced warning on the next bike meeting, I've got lots to ask her.

I try not to go fast since I commute everyday. When I ride hard I pay for it on the next day. Yesterday I rode hard and today I woke up with a stiff knee and dead legs. Because of this I did not ride all the way to work but did my bike-train-bike commute. I didn't get a t-shirt either About that rain on weds. It lasted 20 minutes but rained really hard. It started when I rode to the train and stopped when I arrived at the station, squish, squish, squish. I left a wet seat on the train. Looked like I peed myself.

On B2WD we take a half a day off and ride downtown and then bike home and resume our regular scheduled activities.

The Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Committee meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6PM at Parks HQ, 2600 Madison Ave, Balimer, hon, across from "Droodle" Park. (Subject to change.)

(Directions provided by our delightful chair.) The public group where notices are posted (or if you want to chime in on biking in the city) https://groups.yahoo.com/group/bikehon/

Though it might be best to call or write her outside a meeting: Eva Khoury eva.khoury@baltimorecity.gov, 410-396-7665

BTW My daughter (12) did 18 miles on B2WD (we just eliminated Falls Rd to Roland Ave on the way there.) Not bad for her first big ride of the season. This was our route: https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Home-City-Hall

Oh if any one wants a B2WD shirt let me know and I might be able to get some (just let me now the size.)

OK critique my route. I am trying to figure out a decent way to get to BikeJam next week. This is what I have come up with so far.

It looks like N. Washington St is one-way and you are mapped in the wrong direction (i.e., against the flow of traffic). You can use Broadway to Baltimore instead.

I can't comment on the westside portion of the route, as I don't travel there usually. I'll defer to Charlie and Barry and Angelo.

Btw, I'm on the waiting list for the Men's CAT 5 race... so, see you there.

There are a few northern sections I would change for weekday rush hour travel or for a less experienced rider but you should be fine but at Park Heights and Falstaff pick up my route https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Home-City-Hall and take Baltimore St or Pratt St into Paterson Park (If you are comfortable on Baltimore stay there otherwise drop down to Pratt as there is very little traffic as you near the park.) Note: Use hybrid mode and look closely at the route between Falls and University as it is a bit convoluted but since you are climbing out of the stream valley the residential streets are nice (and a bit less of a slope) and there is a cut through the Rolland Water Tower Park (looks more like a castle turret) a left and a right turn that is almost a u turn onto University.

Great! We're going to have some pink jerseys in the CAT 4, 5, and 50+ races for sure. Looks like Dr.Pete will be there, too.

That reminds me... I need to pick up my new jersey!

Cool. That seems fitting (BBC Racing colors) considering you roll on a TCR. Now all you need to do is upgrade to a T-Mobile version and you will match

I am probably going to wear my BF.net jersey. Either that or the Seagull Century one.

But I will probably be more noticable by the Canon DSLR with the big honking white lens on the front.

Yea that looks better. I am not a huge fan of Swann Road around the zoo anyhow

Derath, you are literally riding by my house. If I was going to be in town, I'd try to join you. Instead, I'll be carousing with friends at the Indy 500. (Plus, I'm not sure I could ride downtown and make it back home the same day. I guess I could always have my brother drive me home, he lives near the park! )

Well I ride right past your house at least once a week.

This is my route that I ride to church on sundays

https://www.routeslip.com/routes/11523

We should plan sometime to hook up for a ride on my way home from church one sunday. Now is a good time too. I have had a nasty run of family and work so my fitness has been knocked back down to the beginning again.

And actually I am probably not coming back per se. My parents have offered again to watch the kids next friday. So this time I am going to bike home friday night and then head out from the park back down to pick them up on saturday.
