Bikes: pacific elite 3.1 w/upgrades and street slicks, got an iron horse maverick now, cannondale sr800, gt gtr pro rival

I saw the nice temps for today and made plans to ride after work, 530am the bike went in the trunk bike stuff in the book bag. Work was slow and I made it to the airport park @ 320,managed 36 miles @ 17.3mph avg, lots of riders out today. Scared the crap out of some runners today, I kept making sounds or whistling and no one looked so I slowed down and about 10 feet back say "on the left", at least 2 women jumped so bad. I apoligized and they all smiled. I just don't want to be the a-hole that passes people w/no warning at 20mph, the wife and I have been there (being passed). Maybe get a bell or I could just ride on the road.

At the end of the trail I starting following it toward the naval bridge and flipped, I didn't want to be out after dark.

The road feels so much more free than the trail,
road = pedal, pedal fast, go fast
trail=stop,look,yeild,slowdown every 2 seconds.

I did seem to have a lot of wind coming and going today. I did think about just riding some of the trails in DC since i'm technically closer to those but I didn't want to be in traffic @ 5 something around dc to baltimore.

FWIW you still startle people even with a nice sounding bell. You do get some more advanced clearance by peds but the pod zombies are still a major problem. I sort of look at trail riding with the slow for peds and then speed up as interval training or the trail version of hills, just try to recover your speed as fast as possible and you get an improved workout courtesy of random disruption.

I didn't follow my own advice the last time and had to replace my 12x27 cassette after replacing the chain due to the chain doing the same thing your did--not catching; riding along the top of the teeth.

This morning's ride was not as bad as I imagined. I just stayed in the drops for the most part. It wasn't too much different than having to make steering adjustments when you're driving in high winds. Regardless, it felt like a slow slog.

I guess I'm not a sucker and should replace the chain more often because even though that cassette looks fine it obviously won't mesh with the chain. I'm just starting to realize that if you ride your bike enough you will need to replace things like brake pads, chains, cables. I used to just do tires. I also need to keep track of how many miles I put on each bike.

The wind-I heard it howling all night and wondered about you Brown and Charlie fighting against a gale.

I agree, sounded worse while in bed this morning.

You ought to buy the Park chain tool. It's cheap and an easy way to monitor your bikes. Hard to keep track of the miles on every bike in the stable. You still have to replace the rear cas every few chains. Some folks say change cassette with every chain replacement, others say every other chain, I say every 3rd or 4th chain. If you changed chains often then the rear cas can last longer.

Since my bike needs 1.75 worth of chain I am really not sure if it pays to protect the cassette or try and get my money out of the chain.

I really hope you guys on bikes today survive, I was crutching home from the Metro and I could not get across the beltway bridge, winds were too strong. I had to call a freind to get me the rest of the way home.

You need some "low profile" crutches!

Man! Slim pickins for a sunday long ride.
I was hoping DC Rand would give me something tasty to ride this weekend, but their start is in Ashland Va. 2.5 hrs drive, with a 7:30AM start- no way.
BBC doesn't really have anything worth biking to either. I even checked Fred pedalers too!
Nuthin.

So, I think I'll do a dry run of the Point to Point ride- https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/246455
Any interested parties?

GB-My wife is taking care of her parents this Sunday, a regular thing and I think will make long Sunday rides a rarity. I can ride just need too be back by noon to do taxi duty. Maybe I can ride to McHenry and a bit further.

Thanks again for the framing-amazing craftsmanship-and quick.

Tentatively, yes, for me, but I'll meet you along the way instead of riding into the middle of the city.

For some reason, Bikely is not coming up for me this morning, so I can't tell you exactly where I'll meet you just yet.

The ride to work was another slow slog--13 mph average with stops taken out. I had more wind in my face today than yesterday, it seemed, as the wind has moved more to the north.

Gusts, this morning, were not nearly as bad as yesterday, though.

+1

OTOH- I'm glad I refused Harry's nice offer to give me a drive home from work last night.
Woo Hoo
I was flying. In the high 20's on the flats and the Kelly ave digital speedometer clocked me at 34mph
(which is, of course, 9 mph OVER the speed limit)

Where as my DRIVE back was not nearly as fun and where as you were speeding I was trying to drive at or under the speed limit, something I do as a way of "spanking" the drivers.

Sorry I was so late arriving at the shop, I was totally turned around, roads that go nowhere etc. I would have done better on the bike.

Think I'll do a lunch ride to the north west, so I can get the free ride back home.

Bob--still haven't been able to get bikely to come up at work. It just sends a blank page. IE shows in the status bar: Done.

IE = PoC!

Dunno if it's truly IE or the site.

If you publish the route (vs., currently you have it "Under Construction") I can get it through BikeRadar.

--------------
EDIT:

I was able to see the map by forcing BikeRadar to show it to me using this URL:

https://www.bikeradar.com/routes/?bpa...-path%2F246455

BUT---there does not seem to be a way to print a cue sheet from BikeRadar even if I'm logged into it.

---------------
EDIT:

Ok, I guess I could meet you at the start--the gate at Fort McHenry. What time?

Great! Ride buddies.

NR, The route still needs the cueing completed. I will be done with that by tomorrow.
No need to come to the Fort if you don't want. I'm guessing the best place to meet might be Cox Point park. I'm remembering that you went there on some ride last year. True? Anyway, just over the Eastern ave bridge and south on Margaret.

Lemme think... Harry and I could leave Fort McHenry by 7:30AM. Cox point park is at 38mi. So, maybe we meet up with NR there at 10:30AM. Harry could head home (another 11mi) which gets him back a little after noon with a 50mi ride. NR could do the rest of the "points" and drop out along Mace at the 88mi mark also with a 50mi ride.

Well, I may not be able to do even that. I need to drive my son to a rehearsal thing which usually starts at noon which means being back in my hood by 11:30. So, maybe I'll ride to McHenry, ride out through Canton with you or something, or maybe do North Point then race back on Wise and Hollibird. Those roads conducive to hammering? I'll let you know tomorrow whether I can ride or not

Yes, it's working, but now I don't have a way to print a cuesheet, so... I guess I'll have to stick close--not that I'd get lost on this ride.

Wise and Holabird, you'll be next to my house. Shame I can't ride with you. Wise has no shoulder and is close to traffic and Holabird is better after you cross merrit you'll have room to the right away from traffic you can hammer if you want but it has 2 smallish hills that might slow you down. One after you pass 7-11 and one after you cross dundalk ave.

I ride them both going into the city.
