I'm right of off Telegraph Rd. near 32 interchange. I ride up to the loop sometimes, but often run over to the B&A trail and ride down to Anna-Polis and back for a nice get out of the neighborhood ride in the evening. I'm working late both tonight and tomorow, but would be up to any out and backs next week. Let me know.

We rode to Gailesville today with a small group of my Team in Training friends. We saw tons of other cyclist out today as it was a beautiful day for riding. There were also a lot of cyclists at the Market in Gailesville, any of you there today?

hey folks: I need help on a route. Lauraville to Canton. Here's what drew up but have not ridden most of it. Crossing Belair, Edison, Monravia, Sinclair Erdman and Biddle might be problem areas. I think Southern is good as is Mannasota. I'm counting on you east siders. Also, is it safe? It use to be a blue collar Balto area, at least most of it was. It's for a woman on MORE that's thinking about commuting.

PS I finally rode the whole Gwynn Falls trail into a huge moto cross event at Ravens stadium. Got a little lost, made it to Fort McHenry(this was nice) then eventually down to Cherry Hill(this was a little spicey but excellent views of Balto, some of the best). From there I went on "Angelos way" out of the city to BWI trail. Missed rt 170 but found my way, on to the Grist Mill trail and trolley trail 9 to home.

This is a little funky but should have some nice bits to it. I think they are finishing up the construction around Lake Montebello so it should be passable by bike now but check out the route before relying on it for work.

Thanks for the route. How safe do you think it is? The area above Patterson park is unknown to me. I've driven it at times.
It was on a rec ride. I was suppose to ride w/ the wife and she bailed on me so I went alone with no plan. As I was riding down my street I decided on Gwynn falls. I saw the artwork. Very interesting. I'm glad there were bright arrows painted on the trail. Gets a little confusing at times. I only got lost when I tried to follow signs to Fort Mc. Decided to ride to it. Lost the signs then found them again. It's a great ride out to the fort if you stay off Key Hwy(which I was unable to do). Pack a picnic lunch and go for it. Great breeze, lots of sailboats. I think returning by Riverside park will make a nice circuit.

Sunday, I did a modified version of the Baltimore Bike Club's Coxey Brown Ride:



I said modified, because I can't seem to follow a cue sheet, while in motion, to save my life and turned the 71 mile ride into a 91 mile ride w/8,049ft of climbing!

It was indeed hot yesterday, but I still needed to get out and ride. I wanted to spend at least an hour or more on the bike, so I decided to go down to Annapolis again on the B&A trail just to get out and think for a while. Even though it is flat, it is a nice ride down to Annapolis on the trail. I have always enjoyed sitting on the dock at the harbor and watching the boats and people that hang out there.

You and No Racer really put up the miles. my 20 miles a day seems paltry. The girl asking for directions to Canton posted(MORE) a link to Balto murders. Seems a lot occur in that route. North of Patterson PK is kinda sketchy to my knowledge. That's why I was routing her more to the east on Southern and Manasota but I don't know that region very well to confidently give her directions.

As mentioned previously mentioned by Don, biking in the heat!! it has been hot but I usually don't mind the heat while biking due to the evaporative cooling of the wind and my sweat....I sweat a lot, just ask the other MARC riders Does suck when you get to an exposed intersection w/ lots ofcement and car exhaust.

My wife and I are making the move in august. We are moving from Albuquerque, Nm. to Waldorf. I have a few questions for you Md. Bikers.

1. How friendly are the buses/trains to bikes. (do they have racks on the front of the buses?)

2. I know that I am going to a lot less elevation but to higher humidity. How do you think this will play into fatigue/diffuculty to cycling there, and or commuting to work. Right now I commute 9 miles work one way and we are at about 5500 ft. elevation. I work nights so it is usually a cool ride home, but my ride to work is in the hottest part of the day. Its been peaking around 100-104.

Don, how do you go from the B&A trail into Annapolis?

I like to camp but on some rides I will stay at an AYH. I also like hanging out on the dock at Annapolis eating ice cream and watching the boats cruse looking for a parking spot.

Well my total mileage is more of an illusion as I seem to only be able to get out a couple weekends a month so when I do get out I go to town.

I have a real hard time describing how good/bad a neighborhood is as sometimes it is a matter of tastes and what one feels comfortable in. Other times it is a calculation on how likely you are to run into a jerk. I personally think a cyclist is more at risk in riding through some middleclass white neighborhoods then most of our neighborhoods of color.

Anyway I ride fairly frequently through a high murder section of town and I have not seen any hint between that statistic and my safety on a bike. Another factor is what time of day one would be riding, during normal commuting times most “bad neighborhoods” are not bad at all as the jerks seem to come out late in the evening. That’s my two cents on the subject. But the solution is to drive or ride with a buddy through the route and get back to me on sections they would like to avoid.

I lived in Phoenix AZ and I have not found the temp/humidity thing here to be that big of a deal, that is to say if you can tolerate 105-110 there you’ll do fine in our 90 degree heat. Though I do find from time to time I need to supplement sweat with some water pored over head and limbs.

At the end of the B&A trail you can get onto Boulters Way which will take you ont Rt. 2. These roads have nice wide bike lanes to ride on and even the bike lane on the Severn river Bridge is nice and wide too.
