Specialized Epic?
Hi everyone
I'm in the process of upgrading and have been looking at the specialized epic due to the "best of both" brain that it has.
I'm interested to hear any negatives about the bike before I make a final decision. I was looking at getting the basic model but upgrading the wheels with Hope hubs and Hope mini mono discs. Total spend about £2000
If anyone has other recommendations as to another bike I should look at, that would be helpful too.
I mainly ride XC and occaisionally rocky stuff, but mostly single track
Cheers

I've test ridden the epic marathon(you can pick it up on sale for 2k - just google) and thought it absolutely rocked. The brain shock works amazingly well - stiff on the smooth and compliant in the rough. It's definitely only XC so if you do drops or jumps then consider the enduro instead.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

my lbs gave me the Epic to ride (around the local park for 30 mins), as soon as I mentioned I want to do a dropp-off of 1-2 ft they advised against the Epic and suggested the StumpJumper (a good compromise between the Enduro and Epic which the former to be an all mountain bike). Want to know what I bought?... A Blur, admittedly I've had the bike a week and the shock has only just bedded after a couple of big rides but she (yes, it is gender specific!) is awesome and suits me very well (6ft 2", 175lbs). I have a slight issue with the front fork but this has nothing to do with the bike you are looking for. Try the Blur out you'll not be dissapointed.

XC, you're not the first to mention the Blur. It's a bit out of my budget, but I've been thinking that spending that sort of money on a car wouldn't seem strange... and I use and enjoy my bike far more than any car I could own... so, a test ride is booked, I'm also going to try out the Marin Mount Vision and the Giant NRS... but I already feel sold on the Blur
