Tread torn off new tire? normal?

I have a set of vee crown gem tires, aprox 150 miles on them.

Yesterday i was riding on the road, and my front tire ( set up tubeless ) gave out, and I checked over the tire to see that a chunk of tread somehow was nearly torn off.

I was riding dirt this past weekend no problems, added a little air before i left my place for riding on road and the tire was fine.

Does this tend to happen? The tires are very new, and i'm not an aggressive rider.

Not sure if i should go to a different brand or what after this, could have been super dangerous if I wasn't riding on nice smooth asphalt.

( the tan bit underneath the tread is the tanwall casing underneath the black rubber.

Tires wear down, especially knobs on pavement. Try some maxxis, vee tires are on the cheap side.

sweet, well i just heard back from Vee, and they are going to warranty the tire.

Gonna have that little bit of worry in the back of my head now, but customer service is pretty good.

That's great they are warrantying it but the Vees I saw and rode were junk. I had full knobs tear off, not just wear down. I also saw bubbles or hollow spots in the tires' carcass and knobs. Kenda, Maxxis, Bontrager, and Specialized make great tires.
