Hi, yesterday I bought a Gary Fisher Wahoo, I mostly ride road bikes so Im no expert at your guy's scene but I think I know bikes. Left the metro trails and got on pavement and at speed when I brake the front end shakes. I checked the wheel and it seems true, I've had other wheels way out of true and the front end never shook like this does; it's bad. I tried different pads, was the same. Swaped a wheel off my old Giant Warp and problem gone, they are Alex rims. Is WTB junk?

The cones\spacers may be spaced to far out on the threads and the races/ bearings are loose and vibrating. Rim goes 'doing!' holding the fork?..
Raiyns stuff sounds right for a disc brake. Rim brake, I'd be on the axle.

Just a thought but....stand next to the bike and apply the front brake hard. Now gently rock forward and back on the handlebars. Do you feel and movement or a slight knocking sensation? If you do then its your headset that needs adjustment and is nothing to do with the wheel. As I said, its just a thought.

I don't have any WTB items on my bike(s), I've had one saddle -it was no good.
Rims -I have no idea.
I run a Alex doublewall rim front, usually Mavic rear.
Rhynolite have THE rep for mtb's. If you build a wheel, use them I guess.
Both my hubs are shimano -they work o.k.
Check that axle again...the wheel spins and NO play in the axle?
Must be what Raiyn is talking about.
Maybe instead of cleaning them -get them REALLY dirty.
I almost never clean my rims -the pads do it for me -I clean them once in a while.
Just run the Alex rim for now and shop the wheel.
My biggest problem is a tiny cable creak from my right brake lever.
IT'S GONNA DRIVE ME NUTS!

Well I took the bike back to the LBS today and they claim you have to break the rim in. I think what they mean but cant seem to say is that this new rim is getting grabbed too well by the pads, causing it to chatter the pads to a stop. The brakeing surface has rather deep groves in it so maybe once they start to get filled in with pad media things will mellow out.?
