You know, when I was looking for my first M.B. I was just cruising around and checkin stuff out, checked out dicks because they had gt or something, I don't recall. I saw the North Face bikes and I tooled around on one and thought they were a solid well built bike, despite my dislike for those north face-clones... Then I went to one of the LBS in the area and I test road my future bike (06 Specialized sport disc) and realized how not on par NF is with the other bike companies. NF just wants to try to inch their tredy asses into another corner of many market's out there. Is there a NF gas guzzling suv? if not there surely will be! But I degress, okay i don't remember my point but now I feel bad for ripping on somebody elses bike. It may be perfect for them, but I ride rough, and i need a stout bike to take it.

For those interested, I posted a list of the Components on my bike on the last north face thread.

There are other NorthFace Threads if you search this MTB section of this forum... I've been on a few since this past summer, 2005.

I really feel sorry for everyone who rips on both, The North Face and Newbies trying to get into the sport. You guys are pathetic.

I'm convinced that those who rip on the North Face, on this forum, are LBS owners who don't purchase them and so they want your business with other name brands.

Anyhow, I bought a Yavapai from Dick's and it served me well in a 35 mile Adventure Race and a 3 dirt crit Race Series. The one problem that I thought I had turned out to be no problem. All it required was some cleaning as I ride "rough".

And guess what, the forks nor the frame have yet to crack into pieces, as I'm sure you guys would hope.

If your skills are honed and your MTB aerobic workouts are intense, you can beat the pack.

As well, you arrogent F***s, think about the Newbies you might turn off to the sport as you rip on The North Face. : )

I hear it often, that some lonely mountain biker convinces his buddy to begin mountain biking just to then rip on his buddy's cheap and sucky bike.

What the F*** is up with that?

The following statement comes from a past thread on the North Face MTBs. It was referring to a comment that I made on how bike snobs suck. I like this sentiment from the guy responding; it's to bad that others don't have it.

"I think any 'snob' would prefer to see an Iron Horse/Northface bike being ridden and raced to a Moots cinco sitting on top of a Range Rover being displayed as a fashion accessory."

Well, Edward Breck, by my reading, the first four responses to this thread had to do with the functional illiteracy of the original poster and had nothing to do with the bike. The fifth took the time to ride another bike and based his opinion upon that.

I agree wholeheartedly with the last part of your post (NF / Moots) - Perhaps you should subscribe to that philosophy, ride and race your bike, relax and don't take things too seriously. Fer chrissakes, it's only the internet after all.

Hey Ed, shhhhhhhhhhhhh. Aside from mountain biking do you like to beat dead horses? Geez Louise you must have a vengance out for anybody with, perish the thought, an oppinion! You don't see me attempting to tear people up because they THINK Hardrocks aren't good bikes. You probably could have left your comment to a simple, "I have a NF bike and it rides great, I've actually won a couple races with it", and nobody would think you were being a jerk as opposed to all your previous comments in this thread and the other. So the best course of action is for everybody to cut their losses and end these threads. And yes, I did take the time to try multiple bikes out, including north face, and unfortunately they didn't seem as tight as any other bike i tried. cya

In the thread you reference, only one member stated his dislike of North Face bikes. Another member indicated their dislike of everything North Face, while most of the posts weren't even on topic. Like pyroguy_3 said, who cares what others think about North Face, if you enjoy your bike, just leave it at that. You don't have to convert everyone or justify why you bought the bike you have....because really, most on here couldn't even care less...it's just an amusing read.

Thanks for the advise... and I appreciate your comment on the other thread about the components.

To an extent, the postings that rip on the NF can bother someone who owns one as they can be condescending. But, the exchange of ideas is interesting and has some value. I don't take anything too seriously. I reread some of this stuff for a laugh.

Actually, I'm a snowboarder and I merely uses MTB'ing and other sports to stay in shape for snowboarding. I'll be working on a 1080 this year.

What made you choose the North Face over other brands of bikes? What other bikes have you ridden? How does the North Face compare to those bikes?

I'm also new here. I became a member because I felt I could get help with questions
about the sport that would improve my enjoyment of riding. I thought there would be
other members here with a great deal of experience that would take the time and exercise patience
to provide answers to my questions. It was also my hope that when I did ask a question
that may seem inane to others, that I would not be the target of ridicule and made fun
of at someone's expense.

Thank you for offering to provide answers to questions about the North Face bikes.
Very commendable for a new member. I hope nothing in this thread will deter you

I promised myself I wouldn't even click on this thread........... Pryoguy 3 In the first or second year of production for the chevy Avalanche, they offered a North Face appearance package. It came with different color seats, embroidered North Face logos on said seats, and two "expedition quality travel bags( suitcases). It may have had a logo on the body but I do not recall. I also have heard the trailblazer could be had in a North Face package as well. So, yeah, there are/were North Face Suvs. I only saw the one Avalanche and cannot visually verify the existance of a Trailblazer.

I looked at a North Face bike once. It was green, and it had a funny name that started with a P. Looking at it gave me piles, so I didn't buy it. I then had to test ride a Specialized, which is, of course, the Preparation H of bikes. Problem solved, but I swore I'd never look at another North Face bike.

xenochimera, that is a good question. I searched google and checked out NF's site and nothing. I guess you'll just have to go to a Dick's or I remember somebody saying something about a Galeans (sp)?
