some do. with MTB'rs i would think that it's more of a neccesity so that if you fall and get some scrapes your hair doesn't get stuck in it and fester... also there's lovely things called ticks...

not an issue when roading though, i thinkz0rz (think)

Some do for the same reason roadies do it. It's much easier to clean and patch up an abrasion or deeper cut if there's no hair to clean out on top of the crud that's already in there.

A lot of them do. It is supposed to make it much easier to clean up an injury after a crash. Taking tape off is also supposed to be much easier, I learned this once when I sprained my wrist at a 24 hour race, made things much less painful to shave before applying tape.

Oh, it also makes the legs look much more cut.

And before you ask....no, I don't shave my legs. At least not yet.

revmonkey - Actually it is a pretty big issue when road riding too. The two times I have been lucky enough to crash and end up with road rash I would have loved to have had shaved legs. Would have made the experience much easier to deal with.

Double negative... why? I hate them, since you can actually have a typo that then really makes one think. They can throw off the whole meaning of what you intended to communicate.

I once shaved my legs after an adventure race since there was carnage. The bandages and hair can be a painful combination.

So, what is the norm?

Do mountain bikers shave?

Or do mountain bikers not shave?

Yeah it took you so long to grow that.
Seriously don't let machismo prevent you from shaving your legs. Heck when my brother was a CC runner he shaved them for the exact same reason. Besides unless someone actually catches you doing it you don't have to explain anything

I'm pretty sure that most people will agree that the stream line, or "more aerodynamic" thing is not the reasoning anymore even with roadies. It is more of a safety thing or sometimes the "hey look at me" thing. It is also supposed to make it much easier during the after race massage if the legs are shaved. On top of those reasons a lot of people believe that it proves their dedication to the sport.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other if someone shaves their legs. If it makes them feel better then great, who am I to judge. I am somewhat hypocritical though considering that I do prefer women to have shaved legs, even if they don't ride.

I used to when I was racing, but not anymore. Sometimes I wish I did, 'cause then the dried blood would be easier to remove.

I shaved for years and I'll admit that was part of my reason. Now I've realized I've got nothing to prove.

But mainly I stopped because I'm lazy - I would still shave if it didn't take so damned long.

I have enough to shave (head/face). I'd rather pull the hair out of the scabs than shave. Alpha male here.

in related news, roadies are fruity enough to get away with wearing spandex, why not go full out and shave....

I'm staying furry thanks, I wear jeans in the woods and on the dirt, I hardly see a benefit of being Nair smooth.
