how do you backflip?

My mates made a (backflip) jump next door, and they are trying to force me to do it. Help might be the difference between killin myself, or having fun!

I don't quite know how but I would say:

A) Don't do it.

B) Lean back as far as you can on take-off, then shift your weight untill you think you're right side up agian.

The fact that you asked this question suggests that you are going to die unless you are landing in a foam pit or water.

something freeride or dirtjump oriented and usually backflips are associated with dirt jumps so probably hardtail as well.

Hit the jump faster than you expect you need to. While hitting the up ramp lean back hard, continue pulling back. Try to look as far behind you as you can, when you see the down ramp continue looking at it and your rotation will slow down. My experience with flips stops at the foam pit..... good luck.

Someone mentioned a Foam Pit or Water. How about you guys try a few mattresses; just don't let your mom catch you ruining your mattress. Don't forget the helmet, all the armor and some of your buddies to spot you.

O, and a desposable bike until you have the cajones to do it.

Have your buddies tried it?

If you're doubting it now, you're not ready to try one. Don't attempt it until you feel up to trying, and if you feel like it's starting to wrong throw the bike away from you. The foam pit is a great reccomendation, another is get a cheapo bmx bike and and practice backflips by lake jumping.

If you do not spot your landing, you will never land. If you turn your head your body will follow... if you can't do a backflip on a tramp or off a ski jump, don't bother with the bike.
