Single tracks

I just got my Giant Boulder SE 2 weeks ago and I found out about some not too crazy single tracks and fireroads near my house, but I am a little upset because a friend of mine told me that my bike would not make it on trails like that. They are not to advanced of trails. I was wondering your thoughts?

That's BS. That bike could easily handle most singletracks and fire roads. I think your friend is just worried that you'll show him up

Your bike will work just fine. Don't be upset, kick your friend in the nads and tell him to shut the hell up.

Couple of questions:
  • Where are these trails? Do they have a name? If they are that technical chances are someone on here has heard of them.
  • What kind of bike does your friend have that is so much better than yours?
  • Are you sure he wasn't talking about your riding skills and not the bikes ability?

All you gotta do is kick dust right in his face while you pass his ass on the trails.

Exactly.

Singletrack can be insanely technical to hardpack smooth. It really depends on the trail.

My vision of heaven? an endless ribbon of rolling flowing singletrack varying from smooth to uber technical.

Thanks unsuspended. I guess the trails I'm going to be hitting count as single track then.

I'll be riding near home (Sedona AZ), Upper and Lower Chimney Rock and Thunder Mountain are the closest.

BS BS BS - I had a Boulder SE (it died in Hur. Katrina) and rode it all over the damn place - including places like Tsali, NC. You'll out grow that bike before it quits on you. The biggest problem you'll have with it is the jump from 6th to 7th or the "Mega-Range" gear. If you need it its a real change in momentum/pedal resistance. Its nice to have at least one gear in between those two. I chased my buddy all over Tsali - he's got way more time on a bike than me and he was riding a Specalized Rockhopper Comp and he never dropped me.

It's a fine entry level bike. I'd be worried if you were riding a X-mart special, but what you have will get you to the next level
