Did you forget to mention they're women's underwear?

We bought some "New" shorts on ebay. They had the label still attached, but it was quite obvious that someone had tried them on. Never again. Ever.

Having said that, I personally wouldn't do it...I know it's not rational, but I would feel icky putting them on.
i agree.

in truth you can wash them in hot water, maybe even use a disinfectant or one of those "odor killer" sprays, and do the freezer treatment (put them in a plastic bag and put in freezer for a few days to reduce odors) so that you get rid of everthing (i.e. HOT, COLD + maybe a few chemicals). then there really should be no ACTUAL reason why it's not good (i suppose there's the potential they could have streaks but i'm assuming the shorts are in somewhat ok condition which would include "streak-free" and you could maybe tell that from a photo)

so basically you're just dealing with the personal "feeling" that you're wearing someone's used shorts. although i personally wouldn't do it at the current time (i have bought used jerseys and jackets) as i don't feel the small saving is worth it (i'm not currently really hard-up for cash), it's really not as bad as everyone here is making it out to be --- i mean every time you shake hands with someone, you don't know where that hand was since the last time it was washed... and then you have public toilets... and doorknobs and whatnot... the list goes on...

Well, hopefully it wasn't rubbing up against the persons sweaty crotch for 2-3 hours, which is what I would expect a used lycra short to have done.
*Another reason to try and avoid shaking hands by the way, especially during this time of year with cold and flu germs abound.

Are you sure there are not some items left behind that haven't been completely scrubbed out of the chamois pad. I mean, that thing is really absorbent and thick. There could be some new flesh eating bacteria down there that is impervious to heat, detergent, cold, etc... buried in the chamois pad waiting to dine on your genitalia.

Anyway, I guess if you have to buy used lycra shorts in order to afford that Chris King Hubset, then it might be worth it.

That just means you've got your priorities hopelessly out of order.

Are you kidding me? I wouldn't actively seek used shorts off ebay, but I'd ride tainted (heh) chamois for a King hubset any f'in day of the week.

There are a few things that I would never consider wearing second hand:

- bike shorts
- panties/thong/bra
- bathing suit
- shoes/socks

Anything that has the potential to smell bad or stain is off limits in my book. (edit to clarify - anything that touches your ass, underarms or smelly feet UGH!)

You may as well borrow somebody's dentures, after they eat their own waste with them.

LOL..I was looking for some arm/leg/knee warmers, and the same seller happened to have 6 sets of used Ralph Lauren shorts and 1 jersey for sale at $30 US. I knew I didn't want them, but you gotta admit that price, it is a little tempting. So I posted this thread to reassured I didnt want them.

For regular shorts ... sure no problem. For cycling shorts their is a thick porous chamois down there. The last guy who wore those could have had herpes or any variety of bacteria that may still be living in there.

If you want to tear out the chamois and sew a new one in there, than by all means go ahead.

Underwear isn't thick and padded. There is no sandwiched layer that can harbor bacteria and viruses.

But if you're so cheap that you buy your underwear at yard sales, than I suppose you need the used cycle shorts.
