Holy Cross is one of the most fun trails I've ever had the pleasure to ride.

Last Wednesday's race.

sscyco 06-10-11 08:31 AM

^^ This was a bit of a rough race for me. I was with you until about 10 min. in, and lost it in a corner. Lost many places - regained some. However, the crash, + blown corner + wrong way = 8 th place.

sscyco 06-10-11 08:42 AM

^^ Ha - we had very similar crashes - except mine was about 25 min before yours. Hope yours was OK - I ended up with a little RR on my butt and a good size bruise on my calf.

All I got from the shorty ride this morning.

I actually had a great ride at first, worked with two other guys most of the race to keep the pace high for us mid packers. But when we hit the last rock garden I got a rear pinch flat. I had a spare but took my time getting it changed and was bummed that I didn't get to try to take these guys on the final sprint. Now to make matters worse I have a crack in the rim and hope to get it changed before the next race. Another great video Tom . Maybe you can point the camera back to show you riding away from us slower guys :thumb:

Nice chase, but looks like a pine-cone gotcha rear wheel there?

I let the front wheel slip over a lip, which was simply me not sticking to the good line. Then the rear wheel got down there and spun me.

Sorry to hear you got hurt! Jon wiped out on the corner at the bottom of the ramp too, and his elbow and hip got chewed up. I came out golden, just a grass stain on my jersey.

Drop your bike by TWT and I'll set you up with my Shimano XT wheelset, you can use that for the rest of the race series if you want. No charge  I can set 'em up tubeless with my Rocket Rons too, they're full-on UST rims so they shouldn't burp, and would be un-pinchflattable.

I went to the Wednesday-night race again. The rain showers reduced the attendance :( It wasn't that bad as long as you were racing, though. The course started to get a little slicker on the second lap, so I started to get more conservative in the corners. I ended up 1st by 2m40s, but the second-place racer would normally eat me alive, so either he was recovering from a hard ride, sick, or just being extremely nice :D

The series leader wasn't there, so I believe I've overtaken the points lead and just need to keep showing up and doing my usual 3rd-5th place in the final two races.

Video, maybe tomorrow. But it'll be tough to make it interesting since I didn't crash, get dropped, or do anything dumb :D

Ok, got my video done:

When one opens that much of a gap strange thoughts occur, such as, did i miss a turn? should i keep going?

dminor 06-17-11 03:06 PM

^^ The way Gino plants arrows, that's an entirely realistic possibility.

Hehe... yeah, it looks different from on foot than it does on a bike at race pace (and with an oxygen-deprived brain) :D That's one reason I always pre-ride the course... coming off The Spine at 25-30mph, that 10mph left turn at the bottom would be... exciting.

I noticed that this week, he had TWO arrows at the top of Devil's Down, one pointing at Angels Up so the less seasoned riders have an official alternative option.

dminor 06-17-11 09:25 PM

Wish I could have been there (despite the rain). Have to miss next week too; but will be back for the final for sure.

stevemtbr 06-18-11 04:05 PM

Yep, I missed it too. Sick, rain and a cracked rim. The cycling gods were trying to give me a hint.

Rode some great single track at Big Bear Lake in WV today. Despite getting completely soaked and bending my small chainring halfway through the ride, good times were had by all. :D

That was a beautiful day to ride. I finished up my ride about 5 minutes before you guys started. Nice group of riders out there. Just glad I was done so I didn't get run over by you. :)

Last weekend at Big Bear California. This is the Santa ana River Trail.

Got in another urban AllMtn ride today. Some small-to-flat's and stairs. Had alot of fun even though I was on call. Always hate that looming over my head.

Final race of this year's XC series at Riverside. I wasn't racing all that well, but I kept the rubber side down at least.

mrgrunt99 07-01-11 04:07 PM

T'was a beautiful morning here at Palmer Park in Colorado Springs. 87degrees F and no wind. Manageable traffic on the trails. Couldn't be much better!

Me and my friend went on a lengthy ride today. Well it was for us anyway. It was a 17 mile round trip. This is my second or third week having the bike though. We mainly rode backroads. The fun part was the old dirt county road by my house. It's used by the rednecks for a mudriding spot and has a lot of rocks and downhill spots with some uphill. We rode up on a little bitty fawn to while riding also. Its weird how it didn't run away so we got real close too it. Luckily the mother doe didn't decide to attack us wherever she was. Anyway we continued onto a paved county road that had quite a few hills. Besides the fact that we were riding mountain bikes, the road's asphalt was slightly melted so it made us even slower. Eventually we hit a newly repaved highway that was smooth as butter and rode up into town onto the highway that goes by my house. So we just rode that back. We ended up doing slightly under 17 miles with over 1000 ft combined climb. It tooks about 2 hours which is probably slow but I just started riding and I weigh right around 250 lbs (hoping to get that down around 200). It was by far the funnest bike ride I've had. Were planning on hitting up some trails in Tupelo tomorrow.

The ride was actually yesterday, but I just got a copy of the video today. A friend and I went out just to shoot some pics and video, had a great time. Ride this trail at least once a week if not more so of course the one time we are taping the ride this happens:

electrik 07-04-11 07:35 PM

Always happens when the camera is on you! Glad it wasn't serious :)
