Half ride, half trail work today. Many of our local spots got hammered by the late October snow storm. Leaves still one the trees + over a foot of snow = lots of trees and big branches down all over.

Cleared a good amount of the trail stuff by my house today with my Silky Saw. I love that thing. A couple things too big, that'll need a chainsaw. May just hike on in there with mine and take care of them...

Sadly, most of what came down is not really the right stuff do do log overs and log rides with, so it's just got to get cleared. Big tangles of mutliple large branches and trees all snarled together.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Colorado Springs...about 3 miles or 4 miles from downtown! It is entertaining, a bit small for a bike park though..

Yesterday's ride.

There was a dog following us and sometimes was going for the overtake.. :P

Well, yesterday I had a good local ride of about 12mi with three friends. Mild technical singletrack with a few cool sections that are pretty tricky to pull off on a trail bike. I can now clear all but one obstacle on this trail. Wish I had some pictures.

Chase canine FTW! I like the seatpost cam!

Took the KHS out on the local teaser trail today. I had the day off work and last night told myself I'd get up early so I could go hit the real trails. BUT I slept in 'til 9. The long road grind out there sucks anytime after 5:30 am so I had to settle for the tour de teaser.

The Ellen Davis is 2 miles of mostly featureless singletrack and I usually run it out-n-back. I had Michelin Country Rock on the back so that made things interesting. Here's one of the pretty parts:

Got some (hopefully) good shots today. No time to mess with them all now, but here is one. Finally managed to hit up this drop on my hardtail this morning. Rad. It's like buttah.

Had to be in Pittsburgh KS today...so I brought the Porker.

Overall, a fun 3hrs. This place is really weird. Def. not a place for lipstick on a pig. It's an old strip mine, so there's dozens of ridges with little valleys between. Almost a pumptrack on steroids. Problem being...on the cross trails...the ridges are too big to pump'n'flow. There were smaller ridges with some baby doubles that were pump'able/jump'able.

This corner needs a berm...if you go fast enough...you have to stoppie it to turn.

Nice pics, looks like a fun ride! Did you have a cameraman there with you or did you have to take the pics scrublover style?

ed 11-12-11 11:20 PM

I take them with my phone. The ones with me in them are screenshots of video clips.

Sure is good to post in here again! Went for a ride today, WHAT A SURPRISE THERE. Happy Sunday y'all, but i get a 6 day weekend every week so every day is a Sunday for me. Kind of, its complicated.

Went 5 minutes down the road from my house for some er, private, DH trails built ~12 years ago and handed down to the lucky. Built bigger and better every year its easily one of, if not my number one favourite trails around. Its technical without being overly complicated that you spend more time trying to ride, than actually enjoying the ride. Its one of the longer tracks i ride which is always good. The views are insane. Its fast, super fast and i feel like Sam Hill pinning (read: just riding the brakes less than i usually do) down this one. I feel awesome riding it and that's what's important.

Unfortunately i didn't take the camera with me this time so no photos of the track itself, just the top and bottom.

Well knackered after my first run. Feeling the burn after a spectacular OTB!

Totally hektik pinning the fire trail back to the carpark where my awesome partner was waiting to shuttle me to the top. How awesome is she! (answer is: very)

This is cool. A bushfire came through in January, the road did a bang up job of an impromptu firebreak (Theres houses about 5m off that road to the right. Surely youd be at the least concerned with a full Aussie bushfire directly across the road!)

Guess it was just you and me this weekend, BFG. That or everyone else is still in the woods:lol:

Can't wait to see some trail pic's.

I wish I would have been heavy into this when I was in Oz. I spent 2mos there in the summer of 2k.

Nice ride today, about 30km... Berms, drops and sweet jumps were had. I think my Juicy is failing to retract, this could be the descent into brake hell i've heard of. :/

^ Good thing those gale-force winds didn't blow you into KS when you were airborne.

ed 11-15-11 11:35 AM

Holy crap, Craigx3! That place looks like fuhn!!

craigcraigcraig 11-15-11 12:08 PM

Ed you would love it. Small, medium, large, x large jump lines in two sections at the park plus slope style course, several pump tracks, trails with "features" in them haha. The trails leave more to be desired but the jumps and whatnot are top notch.

Fall has officially fallen here in Central NC. These photos are from Carolina North Forest in Chapel Hill...one of my favorite local areas to ride.

:thumb: Keep forgetting to bring the camera, but I've made it a point to mountain bike every other weekend (newly begotten weekends off) since that's the only time I have access to a car when I'm not working. Due to unexpected circumstances, this will be my second weekend off in a row, which means more mountain biking :D My stepdad is tagging along tomorrow so maybe he'll remind me to bring the camera.

lubes17319 11-19-11 05:06 PM

I've gone soft riding w/a Fox up front for the past year.
I put the OG fork back on the KM last night & just got back from a quicky-but-goodie on Matthews Winters/Dakota Ridge & my hands were cursing me!

Goood times! :P

Tried out the 1x9 setup tonight. Weird ride. Right out of the gate...I felt kinda weak. No matter what gear combo. Maybe the huge Mexican lunch. Maybe the fact that I haven't been on the knee for so long.

Then I pinch flatted. Rookie mistake that I haven't done in years.

Then I was cornering over some loose rocks that were big and flat. My front tire pushed down on one which caused the back of it to come up and all 200+lbs of me + my momentum smashed right into the edge of the rock that was wedged between my bash ring and the ground. I'm surprised there wasn't more damage. It bent a bit, I bent it back and I was on my way.

Bad karma on this ride for some reason.

But nice to get out.
