You damn near beat me to the bottom just to see the carnage.

dminor 01-26-10 04:59 PM

^^ What can I say? That was the former EMT in me - - rushing in to find out whether it's going to be a "good call" or not :D.

+100...even on the gravel trails, I was sinking down about an inch or more. That's with 2.35" tires, not little pizza-cutters. Lots'a resistance. I was considering talking to my wife about maybe letting me build a gutter-scraping bottom-of-the-barrel Pugsley...but now I'm wondering if 3.7" Endomorph tires will be wide enough to support 200lbs in squishy, crappy mud. If not then there's no real reason to pursue it...unless I can lose 40lbs so I don't sink in has much. It's like riding through quicksand.

Gravel roads suck, but it's better than a crappy old paved road fo sho. I may try a rails-to-trails ride soon. I'll do it in the dark just to make it more interesting.

So the rain came and went, then it got cold, kicks ass of course.
I really missed biking. This morning was so nice.

Remember that pic a couple days ago of the left? Well it turned into a sheet of the right:

The pond was pretty good, this was the 1st time ever riding around on one actually.
So peaceful & great to just fling around out there for a couple hours
Itd be cool to master a 180 with no feet on the ground but i have a little more practice for that.:thumb:
didnt get myself on camera catching an edge flying off the bike. ice is kind of forgiving to fall on sideways

Here's my hifi motion clip cinamax, extreme skills included
i dont know why the online animator flipped the first frame around. or maybe that ACTUALLY HAPPENED??

Stiff suspension is better, soft suspension catches ruts when you're skidding sideways..that's what i learned today......i think....im pretty sure it isnt the other way around

Clearly I have too much time on my hands, it's actually pretty great though ;)

Little mileage at Ninham today. Most stuff was still super soupy. Long route around/up for the short descent down Deer's Ear was pretty good at least. The new ride is like buttah.

Local shop had its first Wed. Night Ride of the season tonight. We were probably only out for an hour/hour-and-a-half but it felt good. Ended up being just four of us: me and three single-speed guys. All good.

sscyco 01-28-10 09:52 AM

^^WSE went on a 25 mile group road ride - that's why I didn't make it to the butler.

You didn't miss a lot. Danny was leading and kept missing trails in the dark, so we did a some needless backtracking. I joked later that they took every fun descent off Five Mile and turned it into a climb; damned singlespeeders ;).

Thanks for the info. I'm aware of Santos... just haven't made it out there yet. I'm a member of SWAMP which maintains Croom, Santos, Alafia, Wilderness Park and Balm Boyette.
I'm just spoiled to have Balm in my backyard so I don't venture out too much since it's soo convenient to ride Balm Boyette every weekend.

It's funny to talk to people about mountain biking in FL... they have no idea how much awesome riding is so close to them thanks to re-claimed phosphate mines.

I'm becoming a regular at boyette, I've ridden Santos as well. Boyette seems like home az far as trails are concerened, I love it out there. I second your opinion on people ideas about mountain biking if FL, my father-in-law laughed at me when I told him about it.... Little does he know.

.

yes, it was like a three step thing so you get two small jumps going down and get to walk up if you come that way.

My roommates ran over my pump with the shredder attached to the tractor so the pump is no more and they haven't replaced it yet.

dminor 01-28-10 04:11 PM

^^ but why would the lack of a pump prevent you from riding?

craigcraigcraig 01-28-10 04:21 PM

flat tiresssss

Dannihilator 01-29-10 08:08 PM

Dang, Texas actually looks fun.

Got some considerable time in on the mtb today.

mzeffex 01-29-10 09:23 PM

I rode to school.. and back..

And then took a bus to work. Too hardcore for me even. 25, windchill 13.

I'm going to bike to work tomorrow though, hopefully in the snow.

That's a lame excuse, I go on 2 hour rides without a pump sometimes.

Just ride a loop where you're never far away from the start point.

craigcraigcraig 01-29-10 09:50 PM

no i often ride without taking a pump but the tires don't have enough air in them now to ride. should be getting a new pump this weekend though thank goodness.

mzeffex 01-29-10 10:11 PM

Gas station. 50 cents.

Daspydyr 01-30-10 07:42 PM

Narrowed the gap between Sloan Canyon and Shadow. But dang, who wants to tackle 450 feet of elevation gain in 2 miles when your butt is already draggin?

Dannihilator 01-30-10 08:07 PM

Got in a bunch of trail time in today.

I rode to work on the road bike today, that was a mistake. A car slid into me at like 2 mph, went down on the snow into slush. It didn't hurt, but I ripped my brand new seat and bar tape.

Dannihilator 01-30-10 11:20 PM

Not much good luck lately for you it seems. :(

But remember, if not for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all.
