I would think so. I can't think of any obvious advantages of running drops especially on a DH bike....

he's got mudguards too. Maybe he's a commuter that has to ride down a mountain to get to work?

Individualism. If the rider likes it like that, then it works for me. I ran drops on my MTB for a while and I liked it.

Eh, Tomac used to ride with drops. Personally, I think it would be terrifying.

I used to run a rigid singlespeed MTB with slicks and drop bars as a commuter. It was a great setup for singlespeeding because you could pull up on the drops while simultaneously pushing down on the pedals, essentially using your legs and arms to power up climbs. The drops help you to get into a more aero position to save energy on descents and long flat sections. Just for fun I used it on a couple laps of a 24 hour race last summer, and as I was ending the first one, the course marshall exclaimed "What the f___ is that s___!"

Can road bars stand up to MTB riding? I want to put drops on one of my mountain bikes, but I'm afraid they'll break.

I just relised that karate monkey had paired spoke wheels on it with mtb tyres...now that's confused.

I like hardtails with rigid forks and drop bars, but that DS getup just looks wrong. To each his own, though.

You wouldn't get me on a rig like that.

In the early days of DH racing Tomac used to run drop bars on his bike. Yeah, the courses back then were all about speed and very little, if any, tech sections. It was fun watching him go by at 60mph down the Kamikaze run at Mammoth .

Doesn't sound like much thought was put into it.
Braking is significantly less effective and the bike will be dog-slow.

I see them all over in Mexico when I go there--sold at various department stores. It's a German company and apparently they made bicycles for Porsche.
