but the price difference between FSRxc and Trance 3 is a big difference and a person told me that FSRxc is a XC/Trail bike while Trance 3 is a Trail/XC, whats the difference???? XC means competition while Trail is like XC so whats the difference?

1. go to the all the bike shops in your area.

2. test ride as many bikes as you can, that are within your budget and in your size.

3. buy what fits best/feels most comfortable within those prior noted constraints.

4. stop expecting everyone on an internet message board to do your research for you.

5. go ride the bike.

Hey folks, please keep this thread going. I'm reading all the posts. I'm very interested in the Specialized FSRxc, especially the Comp. I'm considering the Trek Fuel 80 and the Gary Fisher Cake 3. I'm at the trial ride stage. I rode the FSRxc Comp today. It's real nice. I agree with qurp13, the FSRxc is a little lame. The Stumpjumper or the pro are not in my budget, but the Comp is. The upgrades are well worth the extra $$$. xenochimera, cyccommute, ninjaRoller and mtnbiker66 all had positive comments about the Specialized. Is there anyone who had problems with a recent model Specialized FSRxc? Please comment now. I'm deciding real soon, like maybe tommorrow.
Thanks

I bought a Stumpjumper Expert 120 and, to be honest, I have some issues with it. I am a long term hardtail rider and I have spent a long time trying to decide if a duelly was what I wanted. After I bought the Stumpjumper, I'm still trying to decide if a duelly is what I want The FSR is very active. On downhills, it's great and doesn't beat me up as much as my hardtail Stumpjumper but when riding long slow uphills or flat sections, I find that I have to work harder. I can't lock out the rear suspension and I can't pump it up enough to eliminate bob entirely. In several respects, I should have purchased an Epic instead.

If you can deal with the active rear suspension (and I realize that it doesn't bother some people), the bike does climb much better than a hardtail on short steep stuff and it is better for downhill and rough riding but it's not my first choice for rides that last longer than 20 miles.

I own this bike and I have no problems or complants about it. I just wish it had disk breaks.

good god, if you are going for FSR, get last years FSRxc Pro, i had a deal on it at a LBS for under $1000, and it had better components than trances 3s, even 2s.

yes "nob" **********??

I own a Giant Reign 3, and do not notice any bob at all while sitting. I find the suspension very active on rough terrain and downhills, God I would have hated to have done the last race with a hardtail, I cannot give any comparison to the FSRxc range as I never had the opotunety to test one. Something that worried me about the Reign and Trance was the cast bottom bracket section, but in reality is is just as strong as any other frame. Have you ever heard of anyone breaking their Trance's or Reign's, plus in the event of you being able to hit the cast section hard enough to break it, it will be much easier to fix(reliably) than any other frame due its construction.

The truth is that most high end full suspension cross country frames have very minimal bob these days. They don't even have to be designed all that well anymore, they just have to use quality shocks. The amount of bob that most bikes produce when properly set up won't even be noticed by the average rider.

WOW, a '05 FSRxc PRO for under $1000, that's almost half price! I assume you bought it cause a deal like that is extremly rare.

um i didnt buy it, i got a better deal on a reign, which fits me more. heres how it was, it was a LBS in Pennsalvania, i go to school in Maryland though but i checked a load of LBSs in both MD and PA. it was their last one, they originally go for $1800. it was on sale at $1150 when i first checked it out, around Nov of last year, it was still not sold after x-mas, and i called the store, they lowered it to $999, i do not know what happend after that but i am guessing its sold. very nice components, avid bb7 (or 5), XT rear der, fox float shock, quality stuff, very reasonable price. i also checked out the trance 4s and 3s, now the 05 trances 4s were purple, which was one the main reason it was so cheap at a LBS in MD, FSRxc pro is definately better than the 4s, which came with entry level components. but was very cheap, $800 by the end of last year. also, on ebay, when i searched a while back, they had FSR xcs for under $800, great price, leaves lots of room to upgrade. in the end i decided with a reign because i can pedal is around and still use it for a bit of freeriding and downhill.

I bought it!!! The Specialized FSRxc Comp. Not as good a deal as xenochimera found, but still a real good price. It's at the shop now where they are making 2 changes to fit me. The parts are on order and I expect to get it a week from this Saturday. Thanks to all those posting especially cyccommute, nick w, LowCel and everyone else on this thread. Compared to my Rockhopper, man that thing is smooooth!
Guess I have to change my signature.

That's great. At some point you just have to bite the bullet and buy the darn thing. Otherwise you spend more time searching for bikes than riding, and that's no good! Best of luck with your Giant Trance.
