New Grips Still Not Set
I had a LBS put on some new grips while I had my MTB bike in there to put on a new stem, and it's been three days since I got it back and they still aren't completely set, like, I can still twist them around. They said the stuff they used to get them on would evaporate and I would think it would have evaporated by now, yet they still move. I could probably still take them off easily, is there something I could spray in there? I've heard of hair spray doing the trick.

Take them off, shuv them up your LBS's...eh...hemm....nose, and buy some lock-on grips. I run them on my XC bike as well as my Trailbike.
I love 'em. I LOVE 'EM!!!
Did I mention that I am quite fond of lock-on grips?

If you're like me, you're probably always dinkin with stuff. When I'm too worn out to ride, I'm tinkering. Lock-on's make it cheap and easy. No more cutting off / oiling off old grips.

Shoot some air up in there. Either an air compressor, "canned air," or a CO2 cart should dry out any liquid still stuck in there.

id use rubbing alchohol personaly to mount them, it will evaporate just fine ^^ if you can take them back for a full refund and get some lonk on's why not if you see some you like. If you really like the current grips keep them and just get them mounted on correctly.

ODI ruffians, rogues, and the Lizard Skins seem to be the top 3.
I like the ruffians the best based just by looking on the net, but hands on I have no experience.

When I put my new grips on, the LBS told me to use some hair spray and they would slide on and then dry quickly. I did that and they were tight within an hour or two and don't budge at all.

I wouldn't trust a bike shop that can't even put on grips.

Hairspray, on the other hand, is already tacky (in more than one way) and when it evaporates, it will actually form a bond between the bar and grip. Gorilla glue would do the same but it would be a bear to clean if you ever needed to change grips. Aquanet is the best hairspray I've ever used for grips. Cheap, holds solid and can be removed by injecting water under the grip.

The kerosene is a carrier and solvent while the lubricants make stuff slide across one another with less friction. Kerosene has a very low vapor pressure which means that it doesn't evaporate very quickly. Sprayed in the gap between the grip and the bar, it will evaporated even more slowly. Some people seem to get the grips to stick but I think that's just because the grips have dissolved a little in the kerosene (and other stuff) and that melted grip sticks to the bar -maybe.

(either way you look at it, lock-on's are better and are offered in many adequate styles) The only disadvantage to lock on grips is a slight (and I mean slight) weight issue. If you're counting grams that closely, buy a road bike.

Rubbing alcohol works real well on clean grips and bars. Aqua Net works well too, but takes longer to dry. It's strong stuff, just look what it did for the 80s. Failing that, lock-ons are great. I'd stay away from glues and spray paint, they're just messy.
