Hardrocks are nice but they ride so differently to Rockhoppers and it really depends on the person, I mean, my riding style is very aggressive and I was looking for a bike I could really beat up and ride hard yet I chose the Rockhopper over a Hardrock Pro because it just felt better, it just rode better.
I'm not sure if the Hardrock frame is tougher, could be, but the Rockhopper's geometry is better for me and I have warranty on the frame anyways (and it does cover harsh riding, not only XC like Trek frames) so...

I'm also contemplating testing out the all mountain, and changing the shifters and crank on it to accomodate 9 speed.

Curious... when do the 07 models come out? Wondering if I should just wait for them and then get the 06 RH at clearout pricing like the 05's are at now.

Well I brought the bike home to try it out. Love the bike very much! Then I was speaking with a guy at the LBS I got it from and he mentioned that the 06's would be dropping in price very soon... and said I should bring it back and wait for a little bit... could end up saving a lot of money. (mostly because he knew it was $400 higher than my intended budget)
The Rockhopper Comp Disc is more bike than I need... which is a good thing to have in case my needs change... but... if I can get more bike than I need for a much better price - I would definately do that
If it doesn't drop too much... I could always go for an 05 Rockhopper base or 05 Hardrock Pro Disc... those are both $649 CDN now but should drop lower once the 07's are in store.

I can do up to 3072 res for those pics if you want
Yes I noticed his fork looks to match the rest of the bike eh... looks good!
Hmmmm so I still suck at this decision... down to 3 bikes and have no damn clue!
Cheap it out on the 05 Rockhopper Comp (non-disc)... the 05 Hardrock Pro Disc... or go all out for the 06 Rockhopper Comp Disc I had in the pics.
I wonder if I ask them to change the hubs on the 05 RH Comp to ones that accept discs if they'd do it? Then all I'd need to do is buy some discs next year. How much would a set of discs go for usually... $150 or so?

and it's fine, no need for anything above that... thanks! i noticed you drew over your license plate lol...
and it's kinda cool the discs almost exactly line up with the foglights of your car...
a disc brake set... from jenson usa...
60 bucks each for bb5's, found on that rockhopper comp disc u had...
110 bucks each for bb7's, bringing the total to 220 for a set...
the levers, fr5's from the comp disc are 40 bucks retail, 25 if you're going o.e.... (original equipment from a bike that was new, unsold, built and then taken off for an upgrade.)
like 150 for juicy 5's, 300 for front and rear.
those are u.s.d. search up w/e disc brakes you want on jensonusa.com. probably will cost different to your bike shop.
replacing the hubs with disc hubs and keeping the wheels and spokes you have now, i think is a lot of work for your bike shop to do though. i dunno cuz i've never built a wheel but it seems like a time-consuming job. unless someone wants to prove me wrong by showing me the world record for a bike wheel rebuild and saying that's how long they take to do it divided by two.

Hmmm... so the $350 more for this years Comp Disc sounds like a bargain when looking at it that way.
Mind you - the V-brakes on the Comp will last me a year at least. The Comp doesn't have wheels that accept discs... so they'd have to be changed (hopefully by the LBS prior to me buying though)
So what are you gonna do... wait for the 07 RH specs?
Oh ya... and for that $350 more you get better forks too... forgot about that.

The last time I got a report card, the Ramones were getting airtime on the radio, along with the Clash.
Good luck finding your bikes, kids! And study hard.

So I called some LBS's today just to see if the punk black was available anywhere in the 06 RH Comp Disc... none! They even called Specialized for me and no more are left! Popular colour choice I guess!

That doesn't matter because the silver looks better!
Not an '06 but still, it's a Rockhopper.
But seriously, when you're riding, the color of the bike really doesn't matter so don't let it influence your decision too much.

No worries on the colour letting me make my decision... I like the silver one also (as you can see from my pics above). Just thought I would check around for the colour I prefer
Still undecided about which bike though.

I also think that generally speaking the more money you can spend on a bike, the better deal you get.
