rob, i think that's a really good deal... only for 100 more...

i'd go for it... if I didn't already get my 1100 dollar rh... lol

a bit overkill for me in everyone's opinion... just ask revmonkey

I don't think $1100 is overkill at all... you get a heck of a lotta bike for that price and if you love the bike - why not do it!? You'll be happy everytime you ride it and have a smile on your face.

As for myself... I know I'd be happy with either one... but I just want to make sure I get the best deal.
The stock Manitou's on the '05 will be fine for me for the first year... until their warranty goes out. If they break during my first year I can always upgrade to something else too I'm sure.

Basically comes down to:

1) save $400 with no discs and cheaper front shock

vs

2) spend the $400 and get discs and Toras

well a bike from last year with that much a price difference is definitely worth it to me... whenever i see last year's bikes they're always being sold at the same price - it's just that there's more room to haggle.

Ok so just got back again and here are my upgrade choices...

On either Rockhopper... I can swap all the Shimano stuff for SRAM X.7 (rear derailer and shifters) and X-Gen front derailer for $50.

I can also upgrade the BB-5's on the Comp Disc to the BB-7's for $100. (for both front and rear)

Not sure if the brakes are worth doing (would be nice to be able to adjust em easily though)... and the SRAM is personal preference I know. I may even get them to do the X.9 rear derailer but they'd have to order it in.

Funny thing is... for like $100 more on top of those upgrades can get a Rockhopper Pro that comes with the X.7 stuff as well as hyd. discs (as well as better rims and perhaps fork?)
Damn upgrades.

personally i'd take the comp disc with the sram and bb7's, but then i'd be waaay overbudget and it's much more bike than i actually need.

go with staying in your budget i think.. and if you like green, go for the pro... btw it comes with x9.

also, if you stick with the others, i'd keep the shimano derailleur in the front, and just go x7 shifters and x7 or x9 in the back.
