07 Rockhopper Comp Disc

Anyone else special order one of these yet? My LBS had the catalog out and i ordered a 21" should be here in a week! Can't wait to get it and start this sport I've only read so much about.

edit: I'll do my best to post some pics when it arrives!

WeWu 07-16-06 03:02 PM

I was wondering if you happened to notice what cosmetic, component, or frame changes were made to the '07 from the '06. Reason I ask is I was gonna go pick up a 06 rockhopper comp at a discount (now I know why)from my lbs on monday and am now wondering if i should wait a bit. Thanks

Wes

07 RockHopper

I purchased mine yesterday. This is a sweet bike. My only issue is that the rear disc brakes squeal like hell. Here are some pics. Enjoy!

Wow nice bike crod, looks like they're using the same components as the '06, but on a different frame. Kinda looks like the m4 stumpjumper frame now, but it says a1 on it. Nething you could tell us about the frame??

Damn you pics just made my choice a bit harder now, get the 06 comp at a discount or wait for the 07 comp. Love the new tribal design too.

edit: just notice your 07 came with a rockshox 302, while the 06 came with a 318. Neone know what the differences between the two are?

Flak 07-16-06 08:45 PM

318 is better.

I have to say.. the paint job is... SUPER AWESOME! GD it's so nice!!!

antiloop 07-17-06 12:43 AM

sweet bike dude. makes me wanna wait till 07 and splurge ont he comp disc! i was planning on the 06 rockhopper standard model.

Chone 07-17-06 12:48 AM

Am I not looking right or did Specialized abandon square/rectangle tubing? They look round in the pics...

Pretty nice paintjob, 10 times better than the Punk on this year's model.

jiiiim 07-17-06 12:52 AM

Yea I agree with Chone, they are more rounder, but it still look awesome. I think Specialized probably think the square tubing is played out, so they rounded it off a bit. I have no prefer 06 or 07, but one thing I can say is... I'd die for that paint job!

Mastaman 07-17-06 02:15 AM

Thanks for posting the pics I've only seen the really tiny ones from the catalog. Thats the same one I chose, the guy at the shop was trying to convince me to go with the "candy apple red", but I'm very pleased to see the silver looks great!

crod2005 07-17-06 03:39 AM

Good choice Mastaman. The candy apple red looks to glossy, which combined with the tribal theme takes away from the look of the bike. When I ordered the bike, I was worried about the mat finish. But when I saw the bike, all of my worried were relieved. You'll love it. Now only if I can get the bike shop to get the squeaking to stop.

voodoochile 07-17-06 05:05 AM

I like the matte silver better than the bright silver on the '06.
I agree, the tubing does looks a bit rounder, too. Nice bike!

OttawaMTB 07-17-06 06:11 AM

Nice colour for sure... but I still prefer the '06 Dream Punk colour and no tribal design.

Flak 07-17-06 07:49 AM

Is there some place we can get a spec sheet?

yer, and does anybody know where i can pick up a catolouge? i was wondering how the UK models are going to look as there always different... and i have to say the US ones always look better! i have to say the grass is always greener on the other side!

g3ck0 07-17-06 12:19 PM

Is it true that the 07 is more designed more for XC and therefore the frame will be lighter than the 06 version?

crod2005 07-17-06 08:05 PM

The spec sheet and catalog are not out yet. The owner of the bike store where I purchased the bike said he was going to a Specialized convention and would get the 07 catalog. I'm ging to try and get a copy.

Yes, the 07 frame is lighter than the 06. Compared to my 05 Hardrock comp disc, it is a very fast bike. But, the 05 Hardrock is a much beefier frame. Check out the pics.

If it is lighter than the 06, does it necessarily mean that it will also take less punishmen when mbting?

ThomasV 07-19-06 09:42 PM

Looks like they downgraded the fork (from 318 to 302), changed the rims (from Sun DS2 to Specialized?) and the cranks (from Truvativ 5D to Shimano?).

Dannihilator 07-19-06 09:44 PM

Just can't get into the 2007 specializeds

Ah you lucky ___! haha
I had an 06 comp disc in dream punk for a few days... but returned it since I wasn't sure I wanted it... then when I decided to buy it and went back for it - it was sold! Now no local dealers can get anymore in... so unless I want a 15" one (I am 6'1")... I am SOL! haha
So... gonna pick up a base Rockhopper in the matte black I think and then upgrade the stuff as it breaks.
Got $150 off the bike which I thought was good... considering the 07's don't come out until the winter here in Canada.

cream.soda 07-20-06 06:59 AM

yeah, i like my dream punk a little better, shinier, you can find matte silver on even sportchek bikes these days, and the blue band in the middle is very unique.

however that frame has its benefits for people who enjoy a more conservative design and the fact that it's lighter attracts my attention.

changes I can see: 318->302 Tora,
sunrims ds2-xc -> specialized, made by alexrims,
bb5 caliper is 07 and therefore in a black finish,
bb5 now uses cleansweep rotors (looks much much better than my "roundagons"),
anodized finish on the handlebars and stem (much nicer),
apparently all lower end specialized's have rival saddles (saw an 07 hardrock sport on the other thread that had it as well, i'm assuming it comes on all their xc bikes now)
shimano cranks rather than truvativ fiveD,
and finally, obviously the more rounded frame.

one thing to note: the tora may or may not be the same, perhaps rockshox has a better tora with maybe the new mission control (upgrading the 318 and leaving the old 318 as 302) or seperated the air and coil tora's so that the 318 is the air version and the 302 is the coil, so maybe this wasn't a downgrade in the first place; it's just a renaming. just my thoughts on that, because i would find it disappointing that specialized directly downgraded the fork (directly meaning the exact same fork, downgraded rather than switching to say, a manitou that is cheaper).

that point comes from what sram has done for next year with their drivetrain components - new x9 components replaced the current x9 stuff, now all current x9 stuff is now x7, all current x7 stuff is now sx-5, and so on. everything's been trickled down.

so what about shimano's products for next year? does shimano do that trickling-down process as well? people say that the x0 is xtr level, x9 is deore xt level, x7 is approx. deore lx, sx-5 is approx deore and so on, but since sram has shifted everything down from x9, then does that mean x7=xt?

The '07 302 has lockout, where the '06 302 did not. The '06 302 -> '07 289. 318 stays the same.

See:

http://www.singletrackworld.com/arti...id=2039&page=1

So it's a little downgrade, since it doesn't have Motion Control.
