Spring Midwest Forum Ride

Seeing that we have a few members around the St. Louis area, another in northern MO, and at least one in Chicago, anyone interested in doing a group ride around St. Louis this Winter? It will most likely be small, but there's some good trails around here that it would be fun to meet more riders in the area.

I've got a couple ideas. My friend has a farm with a bunkhouse in Augusta, near several trails in western St. Charles County. He could put all of us up if I pick out a good date for the ride. Or, we could ride some trails in St. Louis County like the Chubb or Greensfelder. I've got a bit of space to house out of towners.

I've also got quite a few friends here that would join. So, anyone interested? Blazinall, MX, Ranger, FreeRidin'.....?

Curtis_Elwood 11-02-06 11:09 AM

I could do it whenever. When are your exams over for the semester?

Curtis_Elwood 11-02-06 01:40 PM

Here's some pics of the main trail we'd probably do.

Ahhh that sure would be fun, but schools a b*tch!
As of now it's looking like a no go for me:(, but I'll still look into it!
Throw out a date and i'll do my best.

Curtis_Elwood 11-02-06 02:46 PM

Right now, I'm thinking the 16th and 17th of December. That would be the normal weekend after finals for those in school. I'm thinking just Saturday and Sunday.

Weeks 11-02-06 03:25 PM

I hope you can get some people together, but either way I bet its going to be a blast!

Thanks. The Fall Forum Ride was my inspiration. I'm not sure what kind of turnout to expect, but who knows. Plus, I've got enough regular riding partners to add to the crew. Now we just need a photographer.

I have a brother in St Louis and a sister in ST Charles So accomidations is no problem, But would rather hold out for better weather. Can we have another in the spring?

Sure, I can try to throw one together in the Spring. That's peak paddling season with a lot of events for me, but I think we can squeeze it in. Depending on the interest, we may have to wait a while anyway.

born2bahick 11-03-06 09:53 AM

I would love to do it! I'm already getting hyped

soccerun8728 11-03-06 11:51 AM

I would love to do it. Problem is that around that date I will probably just gotten back to Chicago after finals. A spring ride sounds good because I will still be in Rolla at that time.

Weeks 11-03-06 05:26 PM

You can count on my attendance in the spring

Curtis_Elwood 11-14-06 10:13 PM

MX is coming down this Sunday to check out the trails here. Blazinall, you want to join? We'll probably hit the Chubb and then either go over to Greensfelder or Klondike. Anyone else wanting to join is welcome. I think we'll be holding off until the Spring for the official Midwest Forum ride.

gattm99 11-14-06 11:15 PM

I was in st. louis for a ride once, did Klondike and Lost Valley, Klondike is unique but there really isn't that much there to ride. Lost Valley had a few neat parts but was a bit boring, once you get used to horse trails everything else seems easy.

If any of you go st. louis from the east it would be well worth your time to check out Southern Illinois, The trails around Carbondale are/were good, the trails in the southeast will make a man out of you.

FreeRidin' 11-14-06 11:23 PM

Gattm99: Have you ever riden Farmdale Reservoir, now that's good stuff! If you have not, make sure you get over there sometime!

BLau1976 11-14-06 11:27 PM

Can newbies come and play? I don't have much experience in biking but would love to join.

NO! scram

mx_599 11-15-06 12:02 AM

hehehheeh

of course you're welcome. don't worry about skill...i suck at riding. my mechanical skills and now my bicycle knowledge from being here for 1.5 yrs is far superior to my actual riding ability :D

BLau1976 11-15-06 12:04 AM

I have all of this past summer as experience...

sounds like enough, but you'll have to get final approval from curtis. once he hears how bad i am, i might not be accepted either

Blazinall91 11-15-06 03:04 AM

I have so much stuff going on in December it's not funny, plus I'm far from ideal shape for Chubb. my bike is going to be overhauled this winter (fork, wheels, odds and ends) but If you come to an exact date for winter I'll do my best to attend. That'd be awesome.. BUT HELLS YEAH for a spring ride, I am uber stoked about that.

i'm no pro either, i'm fairly smooth and far from buttery, but as long as the fun is high and the pressure's low I'm in.
