Would a Raleigh M50 rate good enough to post here? It doesn't look like I'll be getting a mountain bike anytime soon, and the parents might give me one of their M50's. It just seems it would be out-of-place here, since most of what I've seen in this thread are mountain bikes. Also, as for specs on an M50, I'm clueless.

My mistake...it's probably an M30, not an M50...and worrying comes as naturally to me as breathing does to most others.

The bike I might inherit today isn't an M-anything by Raleigh. It's their SC30, and here are the (stock) specs:

I actually think it's a 1999, but I'm not sure any significant changes were made for the 2000 model year.

I want an MTB :( My cannondale F400 with the busted headshock is only good for a coat hanger, and not even very good at that.

Now, see, this is a perfect time for me to say that I need a comprehensive glossary of bike terms. The only head stock I'm even vaguely familiar with is on a guitar. (It's where the tuning pegs are located).
