General MTB Thread...
#726
I was reading the which "clipless and why" thread and I got to thinking..... After years of riding clipless pretty much all the time I'm now running platforms on my bikes. I went out for a ride yesterday running my Time pedals and about 6 miles in my knee starts giving me problems again. When I got home I ditched the clipless and went with a set of platforms. Now when I ride with my old Vans/flats setup,no problems. I am finding that I am just more comfortable riding on flats now days.
Back to DMR, V12 pedals & 5-10 shoes give awesome levels of grip. I noticed someone asking about feet slipping - a big thing is to relax when riding. Tense up & you'll come off any pedals. Even with SPDs, if you're tense you'll crash (maybe still attached to the bike...)

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.
Oh, but you used to be . . . so was I. I was probably that clueless too - - only I was better at keeping quiet about it; there was no Internet to show it off for all the world to see

Going to the bike shop on Friday night
If they have the bike in the right frame size, I'm getting it, if not, ordering it

True story:
I went to a Catholic high school and a couple of times per year the parish priest would come in so that we would do confession. It was all a fixed routine. We, at least the boys, would all give the same set of "sins":
- I don't listen to my parents
- I sometimes disrespect my teacher.
- I sometimes 'abuse' myself.
A few Hail Mary's and all was good.
Then one year a different priest was sent. My friend went in, my turn was after his, and he came out very red-faced. The new priest had never heard the phrase 'I abuse myself' and he thought my friend was into some sort of self-mutilation and kept asking my friend to explain to him what exactly he did to himself.
Needless to say we all adjusted our phrasing so we wouldn't need to explain ourselves.
