Ha, ok. I guess i'll try another pair of shoes when I new ones.
I only asked this questions because I was bored.

What shoes do you ride when you guys MTB? Actual shoes for mountain biking? . . . .

For trail riding I wear an old pair of SixSixOne Launch shoes (which are still going strong despite some pans they've gotten over on RM for falling apart). For racing, I'm using 661 Dually Takis. I like the mid-high top for the ankle protection and support.

You needed a rubber mallet to take the pedals off?

Cheeto.

Yeah, drive side wasn't budging..

Just needed that extra oomph, which got it off.

That's why you keep a pipe around to use as a breaker bar.

Yeah, I was looking for something to give me some extra leverage, but the mallet was just as easy and got the job done :P

Y'all reckon that would fit on a 2006 J5? Yeah I know it says J7, but to all those mechanics/avid nerds out there, how much different are the calipers?

ca7erham 09-19-08 07:34 PM

Well, day 6 without power from the damn remainder of Ike. Over at a friend's house posting. The rest of my town has power but my neighborhood doesnt. Took P-Lav and I 2.5 hours to get back from MTBing (normaly a 20 min drive). Every where we went a tree fell then when we tried to go back, another had fallen. Fun fun. Missed two days of school though, but I had to help me dad gather wood (thats how we heat our house). Sorry, just wanted to vent a bit.

lanfarm 09-23-08 05:17 PM

The should be a Cheeto signature bike.

BFG 09-24-08 03:03 AM

Just found that ole Sammy H and his teammate Brendan Fairclough will be at the State Champs. Cool - Sammy is a regular, but Brendan will be fresh meat!

I hear he is too.

BFG 09-24-08 08:25 AM

I think I just came - Mitch Delfs will be there too.

Two top 10 World Cup riders pinning it against us plebs on their real home track. Delfs comes from this fine state too, by the way. Going to be a pleasure to see these two race together.

born2bahick 09-24-08 08:37 AM

Gonna race BFG?

ca7erham 09-24-08 06:47 PM

Wooooo!!!!!!!!!! Got power back on Monday and interweb back earlier, plus all of our trails are open and have been cleared of trees from Ike. Surly some other poeple on these forums were effected.

Luke52 09-25-08 01:24 AM

Brakes were feeling a bit weak, so I gave the barrel adjuster a bit of a turn, gave the lever a squeeze and BANG.

I've now gone through two brake lines (on my third) without even adjusting the barrel. I think (If I remember your bike correctly) we have the same brakes. I now never go anywhere with out a spare cable (sized for the rear; better to long for the front brake than to short for the rear). I would tell you how to keep that from happening, but I don't really know other than to say adjust the clampy thingy that holds the cable to the caliper as little as possible (If you want, I could prolly explain that a bit better).

Shimano BR-465 discs? 160mm rotors?

And by "the clampy thingy that holds the cable to the caliper as little as possible" I think you mean anchor bolt

Yeah, I'll probably pick up a spare cable when I go to replace it today, just in case.

Although the weird thing is the bike is only 5 weeks old, and has just under 300km [186mi]. The brakes haven't been given a very hard time, just regular stopping. Plus you would think that cable should be able to hold up for a few fairly hard stops..

Oh well, I will ask all of that today.

ca7erham 09-25-08 07:35 PM

My first cable broke at around that time. And yes I mean the anchor bolt (damn brain). Different brakes, but same general design. And they are shimano also.

ahh crap.

Oh well, I went and took the rear cable off just before so it can be measured up, I'll replace the front and keep a spare cable with me, like you said..

That's a real pain in the ass..

Yeah, I know, but its something that I guess you (I mean you as in a cyclist, not "you", I have no idea what I'm trying to say, help I've fallen and I cant shut up. Damn I'm tired) should have been doing anyways (I also started carrying a shift cable).

rankin116 09-27-08 04:52 PM

Bought a new bike today, and it sucks!

ca7erham 09-27-08 05:58 PM

I was going to go to a place to go riding, but then the driver bailed on me so I helped my neighbor paint their house to sell for 6 or so hours. But on the flip side, I am now 60$ closer to getting my DJ/FR bike. BTW: what did you get Rankin? My money is on a garage sale Next.

Luke52 09-27-08 07:48 PM

Brake is fixed ^_^
