I always find it funny how mass media portrays MTB... i guess it is sort of like how they portray commuter cyclists, where every guy going to work is suddenly a messenger weaving in traffic like a crash test-dummy looking for a date.

Sure wish I was riding right now.

Anyone have any idea about the ol' RockShox Duke forks? I might be getting a Duke U-Turn. It says "All Mountain" up the side, but I can only find XC forks when I use the google machine. Same sh*t?
I found the users manual in the archives of the SRAM site, but just looking for opinions of people who've used them. It's going on my NRS, and I do mainly XC riding. Travel can be adjusted from 63-108mm. |
Anyone here is or was a skater? My daughters have taken an interest and I would like to shop around for a board for them. I did some reading and my suspicions about avoiding *-mart boards (much like for bikes) is confirmed. This means that I should be looking at boards from skateboard shops. I have a couple here in town but their online prices seem way too high compared to what I see available in the US and figured I'd buy online. (The Canadian dollar has been on a tear with respect to the US exchange rate, eh, Doug?)
I'm a little stumped for sizing for my girls (they are 6 and 9) but found some online guidelines I can follow. I'm open to any recommendations on brands and online stores. I figured on buying "completes" but am open to buying the boards in components and building them up myself. |
I was a skater some time ago.
I always rode with World Industries, got a complete deck for around 100$ and it suited my needs.... until it got stolen. Since then there have been many newer brands that have surfaced. Some of the brands I remember seeing a lot in the parks around me were: Element Toy Machine Alien Workshop Blind Saw a few Darkstars Back when I skated you could get a decent "entry level" or starter complete for 70-100. |
I did too before I got into biking. I had a local (to massachusetts) brand which was great, built it up custom. I also got some trucks I had not heard of, and when I was riding, one snapped mostly half (enough to drag on the ground and give me a nice taste of asphalt). Then I got grind king and all was good.
|
I got an Alien work shop about a year ago ~ 110. For the ages of your kids I would not spend that much, unless you know they are going to stick with it.

16.8 miles today, road and trail mixed.
felt good. Had a nice SUNNY day, despite the Volcanic cloud that is covering us. |
Hmm, drifting a mtb in volcanic ash could be real fun.

New wheelset in ze works. DM24 32-hole rims, which will be laced to Deore hubs.
Got some tyres thrown in with the rims too, so I'm happy with that :P http://www.ihasaids.com/upload/data/1271717416.jpg http://www.ihasaids.com/upload/data/1271735398.jpg http://www.ihasaids.com/upload/data/1271749693.jpg |
