Ride today was horrid! Went to a new trail and it was all sand and large loose rocks and you had to climb most of the 7 miles of trail, not to mention there were very few trees and it was 100 and sunny. Needless to say I prefer going down much more than going up!
Dannihilator, I am dealing with it since I am still riding but I want to ***** and moan about it. I need to get up north where its not hot for so long. |

Feel free to come up and ride in the snow ******bags!
|
Pacific Northwest weather is perfect for riding in my opinion...not too warm...not too hot
I went riding this past weekend, slight drizzle...but still warm enough to go in t-shirt and shorts |

But the main problem is this time of year, the snow is so wet that you can't ride through it. Plus the ground is thawed so combined with the heavy, wet snow, the trails really got torn up if you can actually ride them.
So basically, I would rather deal with the heat than not be able to ride all. |
There is no snow . . . or heat . . . in Whistler or Spokane :).
|
So are you saying I should come back?
|
Well, let's just say that Silver Mountain's gondola starts running June 19. Schweitzer opens on the 25th. Plus, shuttling on Mt. Spokane should be do-able any day now. There's lots of stuff you haven't ridden yet.
|
Oh how I cant wait for the days of riding the pacific northwest. I should have been there already but damn life hindering those plans....Oh well I guess I can train in this 100+ heat with high humidity for a bit longer.

its 98+ today south of ATL GA

Biking is for the birds lol

I got my college schedule for my FIRST semester...
next semester I have to squeeze an english, Stats 211, pre nursing, and anatomy in. General Biology - BIOL 102 - 001 Survey of Chemistry - CHEM 111 - 005 Survey of Chemistry - CHEM 111 - 006 Introduction to Psychology - PSYC 101 - 017 Introduction to Anthropology - SOCA 105 - 002 Orin:First-Year Experience - UNIV 101 - 455 Leadership Laboratory - USAF 100 - 001 Foundations of US Air Force 1 - USAF 131 – 00 17 hours. Not exactly an awesome easy first welcome to college semester eh? Ah... nursing Pre-Requisites are just awesome. Even through all this, it doesn't guarantee I will get into nursing. Sort of heart breaking lol |
I see only five real classes, so you should be OK. Watch out, though - - three of them are freshman-flunk-out classes (bio & chem). Really pay attention in those and go to all the pre-test tutorials. Good luck.

I sat on a dh bike for the first time yesterday. A brand spankin' new Specialized Bighit. It went down about 3 inches when I sat on it.
|
Just imagine how good all that plushness feels on the trail ;)

how heavy is the average dh bike?
|
Sub-40 DH bike is getting light. Race bikes can be under 35lbs.
Average? Maybe 45 to 50 but it would depend on the parts...lower end stuff is obviously heavier. |

But you'd have to be an idiot to buy a DH bike and expect to ride it uphill. The weight, geometry and lack of a granny ring doesn't lend itself well to going uphill.

I know I'm going to get **** for this but I'll ask it anyway. What, other than more suspension travel, makes a DH bike so different than a FS XC bike? Is it so much heavier because it's that much stronger or does it have something to do with the physics of actually going downhill at fast speeds?

The bikes are heavier because they take a beating and lightweight XC parts wouldn't hold up as well (though some DH parts are getting pretty light). |

I've considered buying numerous downhill bikes on craigslist just for the full suspension but was always deterred by the weight (I do 90% XC), so it's good to know there are other things to consider when weighing the pros & cons of a DH bike.
|
Having a place to ride a DH bike is the most important consideration when buying one.
|
Yeah I have nowhere, which is why the weight deterred me so much. I've got 99% XC/trail & one freeride (that I'm aware of) about an hour & a half away. So the lighter, the better.

Not too long ago I finished up rebuilding the fork on my dmr. Will never make the mistake of letting another person give the bike a try again. BTW, long story. Let's just say went in and landed very nose heavy and messed up the internals..
Going to give the fork a thorough shakedown ride tomorrow to see if all is sound. |
