^^ Ahhh . . . most of the speeds in typical DH race sections are in the range of a normal 32T middle ring. But out West on big ski-slope mountains, there are parts where you'll spin out too early with gearing like that. I run a 38T chainring; although 36 is popular too. Fastest I've ever gone is a particular plummet off the edge of a ski run at Sun Peaks, B.C. that i hear got us to 40-45 MPH; but that is not typical.

Ah god that's crazy fast.

One of my friends/coworkers said that theres some place.. I forget what it's called.. where people hit 60 and above. As you would imagine crashes are nasty.

mzeffex 02-08-10 11:01 PM

Hey D - you ride Yeti now?

Dannihilator 02-08-10 11:05 PM

If it's in the sig, then yes.

Dannihilator 02-08-10 11:21 PM

Not yet; but a frame should be on its way in a week or two.

That's the Kamikaze on Mammoth mountain. In the mid 90's pros were running 70 tooth chainrings and breaking 70 mph

ya you need to get that sucker built up D. shiny DH bikes are good bike porn. I guess dirty ones are too though.

It'll depend on the section of the course - the pinned speed over a sketchy rock garden with sharp turns will be much less than the pinned speed on a wide, sweeping doubletrack trail.

I don't mountain bike, that doesn't stop me from owning and riding one though.

True.

HAHAHAHA no school wednesday or thursday! This nice (10 days off consecutively) break will make up for our (now) 3 day spring break!

Dannihilator 02-10-10 12:47 PM

This is too weird to be on this time of day.
