Starter Bike Help!
I'm looking to buy my first mountain bike and i need some help on what i should get. I've been BMXing for about 6 years now and recently saw some guys shreading on MTBs so i thought it'd be a interesting new venture to try. I'm looking for something that can handle some street/park riding, as well as trails and jumping. If you can help me keep it in the like $400-$500 range that'd be sweet, i've seen the pricing for some bikes up to $2,000 and dont see how anyone can afford that.

if you've done bmx and you wanna do some park/street riding you may wanna look into dj bikes, I like the look of the scott voltage, its very affordable and they make like 8 diff models from like $400-4000 or somthin, so you don't have to pay a ton
on a side note affording 2k for a bike is all about prioraties, I see people complain about how expensive a $600 bike is, then hop in there bmw suv (my bikes are worth more than my car)

Bikes: Mongoose Raid, 2 mole yoro's, and a Diamondback Grind
I tried this. don't do it. BMX is more fun. WAY more fun. for a beginenr, I'd go for a Specialized Hardrock or something like that. they're not too expensive, they are good quality, and are fairly popular, so it's easy to find parts for them

I've never seen a P-trail in person, much less ridden one, but it looks like it's some kind of compromise between a DJ and a trail hardtail. It looks to be spec'ed out like a Hardrock, only a little slacker and burlier.
Finding a DJ in your price range might be tough, plus they're less than ideal for riding trails. However, they're burlier and have better geometry for jumping than a normal XC or trail hardtail. So maybe something in the middle would suit your needs. Norco and Cove make quite a few bikes that fall into that middle category too, but they're a little more expensive.
