What hub and rim for me?

I have a cross check that I have built to race cross and I'm looking to build a rear SS wheel. Any suggestions? I thought I'd ask here since I need a 135mm spaced hub and I want it to be pretty durable. A light hub would be a plus.

Also any suggestions for 700c rims? Would Mavic Open Pros be okay?

This would be my first season of racing cross, but I'd also like to take my bike to ride some single track so I'm looking for something durable as well. Any suggestions?

I currently have a track wheelset that's 120mm spaced.. but my LBS guy added spacers so they're 132mm. They're Open Pros laced to formulas. I took it to another shop and they said it's pretty dangerous to ride so I'm looking for a new rear wheel. They also told me the Formula hubs aren't durable at all.

There are a few threads in CX about this already

hubs - DT Swiss 240s
700c rim - either mavic open pro, mavic cxp33 (not the 22) or velocity deep V

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

I'm pretty sure the cross check can take 130 or 135 mm hubs. Why do you need a 135?

Thanks, I'll search around a bit more.

I just thought 135 cause that's what my LBS told me to look for, but 130 works as well if their are better options.

yeah think the cross check was spaced at 132.5 so it would work with 130 or 135, regardless alot of it will come down to how much money you wanna spend, of course the phil wood hubs are gonna be amazingly nice but they are really expensive, also if you are runnging it single speed not fixed gear you can just get a ss conversion kit for your current wheel, its basically a bunch of spacers and 1 gear that go on a normal cassette body, that would save you alot of money.

i'd also say go open pro for the rim, i don't think aero like the cxp is really needed in a cross race, you more want to save weight for accelleration and hill climbing

The wheel set I was speaking of above has Formula hubs which are Fixed/Free.

Though, I do have another wheelset lying around. It's a Shimano 105 / Mavic MA3 wheelset with a 9 speed cassette in the rear. I suppose I can get a SS conversion kit. Cheaper is always good!
How do you think this setup will handle single track trails and cross racing? Is it durable enough?

I've been riding a Hope Pro II / Mavic Open Pro combo for about a year. They are my daily drivers until the snow flies. Good wheels. 240S is more money, but you can get them with ceramic bearings which is cool. I use a Spot spacer kit, which allows me to fine tune my chainline really well. You could also get the Hope Pro III, which is non-disc and lighter [I think].
