Got a new frame this week, 2013 Salsa El Mariachi Ti. I set it up single speed.

Curious to see what you think of that. Gave it an attempt when they first came out, gave up shortly. The drag in the overdrive felt horrible, despite a clean and faced install. Worked as advertised, but the drag was too much to put up with.
It's what ultimately led me to stick with the 1x setups, as I just ended up leaving it in the low all the time, and shifting up/down the cassette more.

I tried to pay attention today to the drag you mentioned. I kinda feel it, but not too much. However, I only get into the hyperdrive on the downs or flats.
As I normally run a 32/21, I am forced to use gravity after I get my legs spun up to max RPM on the fun parts of the rides. With the HS, I use the lower gear as normal (22/15 - which equates to about 32/21.4), then when on a flat run, or descent I can now make the shift to get some speed going. I hit up Evergreen Mt the other day to test it out, and with the bigger gear, I was able to take about 20 sec off my normal descent times (both east & west legs). Times on several sections are now similar to those done on my Sanction, so it seems to be working well.
I think I'll be digging it once I get the hang of shifting - that 1.6 ratio is a huge jump!

Thanks...I can't wait to slowly bring the rest of the parts up to the level of the frame. almost everything hanging off it is from my 2013 Giant XTC 2, which was spec'ed with some pretty low level parts. A better suspension fork and wheels are at the top of the list. I feel like I'm committing some sort of cardinal sin by riding this frame with a Recon up front.

I moved to a new town which has some amazing singletrack and other trails around it - built by the same guys who did the Whistler bike park. Recently featured in a video in Pinkbike - "Not Another Ghost Town"
Picked up a Kona Kitsune so that I could join in on the fun. Not much out there on this bike, but for the parts level that I got on it, it's a good deal! Added a dropper post to make it a better descender.

Whoa, Burns Lake is WAAAAAY up there. Met a guy at Silver Star last year from Prince George but you got that beat. Nice looking rig - - decent parts spec too as you say. That'll be a fun one. Will be interested to see how you feel about the Ardent after you get some time on it. I've got 'em both ends on my SB66.
I'll let you know how I feel about the Ardent/Ikon F/R setup that Kona put in after I get some use on it. The snow is here so that might not be until springtime!

I got a 2013 Felt nine 60 29er mountain bike, it already has 192.5 miles in two weeks so far. I use it for some off-roading and commutering.
