That's a hot looking bike. It is begging to be let loose on real trails, though.

Thanks! but no, she will never see "real trails" as replacement parts are very hard to find.

My deal didn't happen, I got a bit busy so I told the guy to go ahead and sell. =0(

Bought some second-hand SLX Hollowtech II cranks and external bearing BB from a mate. Also bought some new grips.

Only problem was that the old pedals were stuck in the old cranks pretty damn good. The previous owner mustn't have greased the pedal threads in a LONG time.

Pulled everything apart, and fitted the new stuff. I was still left with the problem of old pedals stuck in old cranks. I managed to get the NDS off with a bit of persuasion, but the drive-side is not budging at all. I've tried all the tricks, and nothing.

Got it sorted in the end. Couldn't get the old pedal out of the old crank, so I've had to borrow the pedals from the HT for the time being. Oh well, new set of M520 SPDs are on ze way. Obligatory "pics or it didn't happen."

New stuff.

GOT THE BASTARD!

Disassembled the pedal while still on the crank, then just kept going at the spindle. Eventually got it loose using the BIG adjustable wrench.

I'm glad I got it out and saved the cranks, I really like them. Old-school RaceFace Evolve XC.

(sorry for the offtopic) but have you tried with heating the crank (stove works) and not the pedal? this causes the crank to dilate and the pedal to get out easily :)

It's just an Ibex, I've changed a few parts out. The frame, fork, brakes and cranks are the same.

2000 Gary Fisher Wahoo. Bought it barely used two days ago for $100...couldn't really turn down the price. Put some beefy Specialized Purgatory tires on it to replace the hybrids it came with, as well as some of those Specialized Contour ergonomic grips. I might put a suspension fork on it one day, but for now I like the precise control I get from a rigid fork. Plus I don't feel like dishing out $200 for a fancy suspension for I'll just lock up most of the time anyway.

Nice! Here's my ride, bought it in '95 and never felt the need for a suspension fork (much less any other mountain bike):

Not sure why my bottle cage isn't on it in that pic...and my grips are different now.

I was discussing some methods with a mate (Who's the head wrench in his shop) and he said because the crank was alloy, and the pedal axle was steel, heating it wouldn't really do much to help.

Plus I have an induction stove, so no flames :P

I'm a pretty rough rider so I've been looking into upgrading it with an 80mm suspension fork & disc brake on the front, but I like it so much as it is..just not as my primary trail bike. It's great for light trail rides & on the road though. I'm leaning more towards saving up for a new bike & keeping this one the same with the exception of putting some slicks in place of the off-road tires. Turn in into a nice hybrid.
