Cable to Hydraulic Brakes
Hi,
I'm a road cyclist who has no experience in MTB. I own a 2009 Trek Portland that I am thinking of converting to cyclocross; regardless, my bike has cable disc brakes, and i was thinking of converting to hydraulic brakes. Are there any hydraulic disc brake levers (for MTB) that i could mount as cross/top-mount levers, then wire the cable from the road lever to the MTB lever?
Cheers,
victor

im sure cable discs are just fine. hydraulic brakes are a night mare. I also thought it was illegal to run discs. maybe not.

Update
I found some pictures of what i am looking for. Otherwise, the reason i'm bothering the MTB forum is because i'm looking to find out if there are MTB levers that have the capacity to be attached to road brake lines, so that the brake cable depresses the mtb brake and the hydraulic brakes are acctuated.....any knowledge of this?

I wouldn't do it. Cyclocross regulations tend to be pretty strict. If I remember it's canti only which means cable actuated.

I wish i knew
FIRSTLY........I AM NOT GOING TO COMPETE IN CYCLOCROSS....THIS IS JUST A SUPER COOL IDEA I HAVE.
That cleared up, i have no idea where to find these. the components say HOPE, but the company doesnt seem to sell them. I'm going to call 'em up in the coming days. I'll keep everyone updated. I think having a mountain bike from a road frame would be cool.
Cheers

OP- Why not use regular Runkel ('cross) levers? You'd end up with hydro lines and cables all over the place, but I don't see why not.
Yeah, ask in the 'cross forum.

another alternative is the cable mechanical avids made for road bikes. i know it's not hydro...but it looks light and small
https://www.sram.com/en/avid/mechanic...es/bb7road.php
they have a bb5 and bb7 road version. does anyone know if these are adjustable to work with brifters? i am assuming the big 3 shimano, campy, or sram brifter would work?

Fairly idiotic statement. I've been abusing mine (at least the fronts) for about a year now and I know there are loads of other people who have been doing the same for far longer than I have who havent had any issues. Dont be a technophobe.

i would switch back to linear beecause they were the best i had so far. so easy to adjust which was rarely needed, not having to constantly bleed them, i can see the pads to account for pad wear and were the easiest to replace pads on.

Most hydraulic users here will probably disagree with you on this. Hydros have a rep for set-and-forget. Your mileage varied for some reason.

i know. ive gotton 1500 miles on linear pull and like 80 with hydraulic disc and have had the most trouble with these and around 50 for mech discs. I think linear brakes are more than enough. hydraulic discs provide better stopping power and modulation but its not worth the hassle. linear are set and forget.
