mtb clipless toe clips for road shoes

Hi I am usually in the road forum. I have an old bike that i gave to my dad to get into road cycling. There was an old pair of mtb clipless pedals on the bike similar to the ones below. I also gave him an old pair of cycling shoes that only have 3 holes for the toe clips (for the conventional road pedals).

My question is if there are toe clips that would fit his shoes that could be used with his pedals so he doesnt have to buy a whole new set.

thanks

similar to his shoes
