Life does not suck.
Buddy in CO mails me: dude. heading for a long stretch in moab. why don't you come.
Me: awe ****. This happens to coincide with a nice stretch of days off for me. The free cash is tight, but I can swing it. The wife is fine with it. Hell yeah!
Round trip, non-stop flight from NY to Denver = $357. Roughly $50 each way to get the bike there. Another $50 each way getting me to the airport.
My buddies out there have tent/sleeping bag for me, all I gotta' do is get me and a bike there... Pay for some gas and camping fees. the rest is whatever I eat and drink.
So I'll be in the desert a week from now. Sweet!
Will get four full days to ride out there, for not really much cash. For those of you who say some day...just do it! Granted, I've been there a bunch before, but it's still damn nice. It'll make for nice "spring training" as long as the weather holds up. We plan to hit up Fruita/GJ on the way back to Denver, or spend more time there if the Moab weather blows. Or if the weather sucks overall, then I just hang out on the front range with friends. Not bad.

Going to bring the Spitty beefed up with some DH tires and a shorter stem. the DH bike could be slimmed down with a shorter fork, single ply tire up front, add a granny ring, and my dropper post. But...even that way it's still a pig unless going mach ********. The Spitty is nearly as slack, but way more fun on pedaly stuff, so... Plus, the high up shuttle stuff where I'd want the big rig isn't snow-free yet anyhow.

no worries. think we're only hitting fruita/gj the last day. probably a short hit of the loma trails to hit moore fun and horsethief, then over to gj for a free lunch/holy cross session.
or, if the moab weather turns crap, over there.
been near three years since last out there. free lunch wasn't there then - it's one i'm looiking forward to riding.

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.
Life does not suck . . .

Awesome out-of-the-blue; have a blast.

Yep. We were out in Denver last April for a wedding. Managed a couple front range rides, and the hook was set then.
"You know, if you just got yourself and a bike here, all us front range buddies can scrounge up enough spare gear for you. Pick you up at the airport so you don't need a car rental. etc. etc."
Not a bad deal.
